should I remove the ac compressor mount when removing ac?
I removed my ac today and I removed the ac compressor mount that mounts onto the engine and then mounts to the side of the engine bay. Should I put this back in or not? Is it some kind of structural support for holding in the engine? My car seems to feel unstable now when shifting for some reason...not sure if this could have caused it.
bump i read in a similar post that this mount is needed as a torque mount. Can anyone verify this?
I left mine in. Yes it is a torque mount. If you have an EK and that weird lookin mount, it will bust and nasty goo will cover the engine bay.

This is correct.

Put the mount back on!! You don't want to take your car to a drag strip w/o it. That would be a very bad experience for you. My friend had his off and the motor jumped around like crazy. It killed his 60ft.
yea when I shifted at redline into 2nd my car bounced around like crazy. It definantely didn't feel right.
Too bad I can't leave it out though. The thing is heavy as **** and would be a good weight savings.

yea thats what I should have concluded
.....i have a dent in my hood that I think is related to this. I think I shifted hard without that mount in and my motor hit the underside of my hood because the dent is popped out instead of in

your motor would have had to be bouncin like a mother ****** to hit the underside of your hood.

I hit my oil pan pretty hard and put a good dent in my hood too. that was on a crappy 96 VW though. they use a combination of jello and marshmellows for the 3 engine mounts. oh and toothpicks too, for strength.
You need to keep that on. But you can grind off the mounting points for the compressor to shave off a little bit of unused weight if you're not considering throwing the A/C back on.

yea it was. Keep in mind I tried slamming second gear. My engine jumped pretty bad.

Damn man...good to hear that this removal went more smoothly than the PS.

yea it was way easier than doing the ps. Dealing with getting those lines out from that little tiny space under the car behind the firewall is such a bitch. I did the whole thing on my friend's integra in like 30 minutes, but my car took much longer

so removing the ac was easier than ps? im about to do both as soon as my lazyness ceases
... what kind of car do you have? is there anything else that was difficult with either?

yea I thought it was easier. Ripping out all of the ps stuff was easy until I got down to the pump and the rubber hose and metal line ran up under the firewall and into the rack. There is a tiny tiny space where you can barely move a wrench to get that metal line out. It is just a pain in the ***. AC really wasn't all that bad. Make sure you get the stuff to loop the rack when doing the ps. My car is a 98 ex. Integras are much easier because their ps lines face into the engine bay and are easily accessable.
