Wont go into 6th gear anymore!!
I'm getting on the highway and I have the RPMs up, I'm in second, I fully depress the clutch and I leave it depressed until I'm in gear. But I shift over just a little far and it tries to go into 5th, but it grinds just a little as I back off real quickly. I put it into third and its a little hard to go in, 4th is fine, 5th is fine but when I try to bring it back into 6th, nothing... It just wont go in, its like a metal bar is keeping it from going in.
Now what would make this happen? Its a 2002 S2K with 20k miles on it. I'm goina bring it into the dealership tomorrow but... I don't think I'll get much from them. 6th gear has sometimes given us a little trouble (hard to push in) but nothing ever like this. I even pulled over, shut the car off, put it though all the gears with the clutch in (no 6th still) started it back up, drove away and still, no 6th gear.
Thanks!

I don't think old tranny fluid would be enough to keep you out of a gear completely. Sounds more like an actual gear problem or perhaps a synchro. I'm afraid I'm not well versed enough in transmissions to offer any more help than that. Sorry. Good luck with it.

You have some issues that need to be looked at by a trained tech that has experience on s2000s. Be sure to ask for that when you take your car into the dealer. You have to be honest, did you grind any gears previously? Do you fast shift? double clutch? Does this problem only occur at high rpm shifts? Is temp a variable? Made sure the tranny fluid is up to level? When was the last time it was checked or changed? Bottom line, the tranny can succumb to worn down synchro's due to improper management. My friend who is not used to the tranny and has very limited seat time in my car can never shift from 2nd to 3rd without going to 5th first. That in itself is cause for bad shifting technique on the car that can take its toll on the synchros.

Actually we just got this car last week, I was telling the truth though, I had it at higher RPMs, tried to shift from 2nd to 3rd, went over too far and almost went into 5th as the grinding stopped me (Clutch was fully depressed as I was saying) and its the first time we have ever did a grind on the gears. (Bought the car new). Did not shift fast, of course I didn't double clutch (Waste of time on new syncroed transmissions unless syncro is showing signs of going bad).
Oil shouldn't need to be changed for 50-60k miles on a manual and I have no clue why this 5th gear thing would even effect 6th!
But yeah, I'll ask for a trained tech like you said.
Thanks!
