i'm sure you could find a used factory cat from a 98+ chassis from someone here in socal / recycler for like 40 bucks. Perfect fit...just find one under 60k...

118k is kinda low for a honda cat to die in a stock runner. Did she ever put in diesel by accident? Or not change the oil that much? Did she buy this car used?

A dead cat @ 118k is a sign of things to come...

Edit: oops...i thought you were in socal

a 98 needs an OBDII scanner to read the codes, under the steering wheel. Autozone will do it for free (if their employees feel like it).

It's most likely code PO 420: "Catalyst efficiency below Threshold"

I've been getting the same thing in our 99 Odyssey for 10k miles now. New cat is 259 shipped w/ 5yr 50k warranty from http://www.all-catalytic-converters.com/ .
Looks like yours would be 154.

Most recyclers wouldn't sell me the part beacuse it's an EPA mandated thing. I say BS. My fuel economy's still good, so I ordered an O2 simulator from http://www.accordinglydone.com for $42 shipped. I'll install it this weekend and let everyone know what happens.

FYI, 91k seems early for the cat to begin to fail, but the funny thing is, lot's of other Odyssey and V6 accord owners have had theirs replaced too. Hmmm......

if thats it then i might just do a free fix and gut it, since its a secondary o2 it shouldnt affect the computer.
