What do you consider a "stock motor"?
I know this is a dumb question...but I'm going to ask anyway. We've all heard the famous, "it's stock" line, but what does everyone consider "stock." I know what my definition is but I'm curious to learn everyone else's definition? Enlighten me please.
To me, a "stock motor" is a motor with zero mods. The same as it rolled off the production line.
"Stock block" means no internal mods-rods/pistons etc.

Do you consider a block that has OEM Honda pistons such as ITR, CTR, or P30 pistons in a B16 or B18 block stock? Or would it be considered built?

i agree,
if you switch to ctr or itr pistons i would consider is modified but not built,

when people say stock, they should refer to it as no pistons or rods or sleeves. i feel that it doesn't matter what other upgrades you do, as long as the internals aren't strengthened the motor can still only hold a certain amount of stress. when people claim fast *** street car with a stock block, thats props.

What he said... Thats a true stock block title... A Stock motor would be untouched oilpan to valve cover... including intake manifold .

that means you have work done but the bottom end is still done.

stock motor is stock block and head. headgasket could be changed, but i still like to look at it like the motor has not been cracked open at all. b18c1 block with b18c1 head is a stock motor. b20b block with a b16 head is not stock. adding typer pistins to a gsr block is not stock either, IMO. adding cams, springs, retainers to the head is also not stock. changing either of the manifolds is fine, that has nothing to do with the motor itself being stock.
So say an engine has a pair of cams and a block guard.. is that considered a built engine?
I say if you havent changed the piston and rod combo and the sleeves then its a stock shortblock. If you have stock ports, stock valvetrain, that is a stock head. My thoughts are if they dont make it stronger, its not "built"
I guess ultimately if its faster than your opponent.. it doesnt matter how you got there.. you won.

if the stock airbox is removed and and intake is put in and the stock exhaust is changed without changing the header i would call that a stock motor.
intake and muffler is still stock motor to me.
intake and muffler is still stock motor to me.
stock is only internals, you can have all the bolt ons you want, header, cam gears, intake, exhaust, etc... as long as you still have stock pistons and what not. At least that's my two cents.
i also tell people my motor is stock......i havent added anything inside
so the motor itself is stock......now stuff bolted on to it might not be stock.
only internals is a honda intake cam SO ITS STOCK
just tuned

I would say stock as in how it came from the factory with nothing done to it but not meaning the motor that came in the car.
