Default Who can figure this out?

I have a 1989 Acura Legend with 87K original miles with an automatic v6 engine. Sometimes when I start the car it starts and stops quickly. It will do this maybe 3 0r 4 times and maybe on the Fifth time start and run ok without dying out. Most of the time it starts and runs ok on the first try, but only sometimes it does not. Spark plugs new. Can anybody tell me what is going wrong? Thanks.

Have you checked the cap and rotor?

Yep, either main relay or ignition switch related. Listen for the fuel pump running while the CEL lights when you first turn the key to position 2. No sound = bad main relay. Could be something else of course, but in that vintage I would suspect the above two culprits.

check your EGR vavle, and your engine thermometer. ive had this problem, the thermometer was telling the computer it was too cold to start, so it took a little while to start it up.

It is the electrical part of the ignition switch, common with older H/A vehicles.
