Default Iridium plugs: NGK or Denso ??

Guys, I need to buy some plugs soon. I've been putting this off way too long. Anyway, I noticed that NGK Iridiums cost about half of what Denso Iridiums cost. Does anyone know why this is ?? Are the Densos that much better over the NGKs or are the NGKs crap ?? I need to place my order for these plugs soon and I will appreciate your input...

BTW: On a 2001 mostly stock ITR, which part number plug should I buy ?? Thanks !

I have the denso non-iridiums and they work fine. Usually I use Champion plugs for the street with no problems... 0.89 each

Hope that helps

BKR7E (6097) is what I found most people to be running. I used to run the R561A-7

Here's a comeback on this topic ... After all the research, I went with the Denso Iridiums for just under $50 delivered from an Ebay shop. I can say I am very happy with them so far. The car starts nicely and there is a "seat of the pants" feeling that the car is a little more torquier. So, I'm happy.

Here's a side-note.. My brother-in-law bought the NGK Iridium counterparts for about $20 less than I paid for the Densos. The results on his car are basically identical to what I experienced on my ITR. The plugs look almost identical. All in all, it looks like I would have gotten the same results with the NGKs and saved a few bucks.

I think the difference in price is because the NGK's are just coated with iridium and the Denso's are full iridium. I have the Denso's in my car and love them....

Whats the point of bumping a 2 year old thread for a comment like that?

I don't see the point in running pricey plugs. I just use NGK copper (best conductor) and change it out every season.

Holy back from the dead thread Batman !! hehe ..

FWIW: After this thread, I went and bought Denso Iridiums for the R. I'm now making 206WHP on my NA build and the Iridiums are still there. My butt-dyno likes them and they seem to last forever. Good stuff.

FWIW i use ngk bkr7e (regular kind) and change them every other oil change... they work great and are cheap (under 10 bucks for all 4)

Depends on you personally. You can run cheaper plugs and change them faster, or run expensive plugs and change them less.

It's like the Syn oil vs. conv. oil. You'll end up spending close to the same, just make the change more frequent.

For anyone who considers themselves to be mechanically inclined enough to change their own oil, the only option should be the NGK BKR7E

NGK Coppers are the best plug you can run in your B-series.

For example, by simply changing the spark plugs on a moderately built B16 last week, we saw 12whp/9tq going from barely used (~5k mile) NGK Iridiums to BKR7E's.

The first thing we do when tuning a B-series is change the plugs to NGK coppers.

12whp out of just changing plugs--and on a B16? I could see maybe 2-3, but to get 12whp something must have been wrong with the tune and/or plugs.

Iridium is not *that* bad of a conductor.
