Default new times with new setup; I can't drive

I went to the Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, GA this past Friday. I was a little disappointed but I was pleased with the power the engine was putting out. I beat a mustang 5.0, a trans am and several others that I didn't have a chance with before the swap. I really need to get my 60' times down to hit that 14 second pass I was hoping for. My best of the night was a 15.125 @93.36 with a 60' of 2.38. My best 60' of the night was a 2.35. The track was about 55 degrees and a lot of people complain about not being able to get traction there, it's also 1000feet above sea level. I was running on 14" azenis. Here's a quick rundown on the setup, be honest, where should I be at? It's in a '91 RS hatchback.

b18a block
USDM .25 OS ITR pistons
shotpeened LS rods
balanced bottom end
b17a head
CTR cams
KS Motorsports valvetrain(springs, race valves/guides)
b16a genII intake manifold/throttle body
LS tranny
exedy clutch
Xact 12.5lb flywheel
Apexi VAFC
CTR exhaust manifold, stock cat, Greddy MX catback

Like I said I was pleased but I know the engine has more power in it and also I know I'm using the wrong tranny. Most importantly the engine ran great all night and never gave me any problems. I built it myself with help from a friend so I'm glad it's still running strong with around 6k miles on it. My winter project will be finding a vtec tranny and rebuilding it with new synchros and getting the car dyno'ed and tuned right. Thanks for looking.

With all those mods in a G2 teg you should be shooting for mid 13's not high 14's. Maybe that tranny is killing you

13's?? There's no way. I've got a lot of work and weight reduction to do before I get 13's. I think after dyno-tuning and a vtec tranny I might be able to hit a 14.6-14.5 on a good day. The car weighs just over 2500lbs without me, I imagine it's close to 2700lbs with me in it so it's not that light. It might have around 170whp and 125wtq at the moment. Well, I guess I have lots of time to practice my launch before the tracks open in the spring.

How do I get 60' times that low without using slicks? I think if I had been able to hit a 2.30 I could have had a 14.9 on Friday. Are azenis good for drag racing? Are kumho 712's any better?

I have Azenis and they work fairly well for drag racing. I got my best 60' friday, which was a 2.1..[the rest were 2.2's] I think you need some shorter gears though

Practice, practice, practice, it takes some time to get good at launching your car to it's full potential, of course good tires help... I use nitto 555r drag radials.

you should be able to get a 2.0-2.1 60' on azenis, launch harder. every .1 off you 60' will take .2 of you e.t.

You can hit mid 14s with your mph right now. However, if you get a better tranny I bet you could even get deeper in the 14's, and possible hit 13's. You can always use slicks, which would help you with your 60' time a lot. Keep us posted.

Thanks for the advice everyone. I was looking over all of my old time slips from a few years ago(I put them all on a spread sheet on the comp to keep track and compare), and I couldn't find a 60' time of better than a 2.365. I couldn't launch back then and I still can't. I guess I really do just need practice. I was hoping the azenis would help me out a little more than they did.
Just for future reference, do azenis grip better when they're cold, or when they're hot? It makes sense they'd be better warm, but I remember talking to some autocrossers saying they spray water on their azenis between runs to cool them down because they lose grip when they warm up. I tried chirping them once quick, I tried spinning them for a few seconds, and I tried just rolling up and going without doing anything. My best 60' of the night(2.35) was actually on my last run. I spun the tires for 2-3 seconds and launched at 3500 spinning the tires off the line for a second or two feathering the gas until the tires grabbed.

My 150k mile 92 GSR with only a AEM intake ran a 15.0 on falken tires, I'd say you had alot more left in your car.

Go tune the car, you will pay around $200 for that but u will gain power almost for sure(unless some thing is wrong with the motor). I ran a 15.182 except that was with a 2.8sec 60' time and it was at 98mph, that's in a 93 CX with a JDM GSR with CTR cams and boltons, tunned(no vfac) with Azenis tires.
