b-series transmission internals question: 'small spline' to 'big spline' differences?
Thought I read about this somewhere in another post, but I'll be damned if I can find it. Wondering if anyone knows what changed in the b-series trans between 91 and 92+ -- is the newer design stronger? thought I also heard something about there being dual synchros on 2nd gear or something in the newer design? maybe on the GSR model only? this is assuming that all the 92+ b-series internals are the same, as i have read in a few posts (cable vs. hydraulic clutch differences aside). thanks for any info.
88-91 smaller diamter input shaft while 92+ have bigger diameter input shaft.....as far as strenght im not sure.
also the R and s80-y80 gsr tranny's have tampered roller bearings.while the others have ball bearings
In 92+ trannys the differential pin is hardened from the factory. Pre 92 B and d deries tranny they are not. If this pin shears (common on the pre 92 trannys) you can say bye bye to your differential and tranny case. I don't know about the syncros. I do know the new s2000 has carbon fiber syncros. Bad *** sheot!
Just got hold of a Helm's for the 2nd gen integras - the gsr transmission does have double-cone synchros on second gear (i believe).. but the LS trans does not. guess that settles that. any word on strength differences between the two? [I am building an engine for my 91 integra, and would like to replace my aging trans while i'm at it. if the 92-93 is a better unit, i'll go with it instead of another 91.]
