help from guys who shaved bodylines
ok Im bout to do this, I got the sheetmetal, the mig welder and plenty of bondo... my only question is how far above and below the actual bodyline do I cut the sheetmetal or do I cut it a lil too short and fill in whats left with bondo, hit me up and let me know... if u dont mind email me, its greatly appreciated......kzgco04@aol.com
btw, is the entire door shell metal? a peice broke from the bottom and it looked to have a thick coat of plastic, not sure if that part (rust behind it) had been put on...

Yes the entire door shell is metal, the broken piece that you found must have been from something else. But yeah to answer your question, i don't recommend going the sheet metal route because sheet metal tends to warp in the long run. What I recommend you doing is buying fiberglass compound and filling in the molding lines with it and shave down the excess compound once it dries. Finally smooth it out as much as you can and add a thin layer of bondo (because bondo has a tolerance level of thickness and it will crack if you go over it). Sure the fiberglass compound is a little heavy but it is very strong and you will be pleased in the long run when you see that you're panels are still straight and not warped. Good luck

Thank you for your answer, you are about the first helpful person I have found on b17a, g2ic or hondatech yet... thanks again,... now this fiberglass compund, are you speaking of kittyhair bondo? or just doing fiberglass mat and layering it, Im somewhat familiar with the kittyhair.....(fiberglass slices in resin) incase you didnt know *Im pretty sure u did tho

This fiber glass compound is grayish looking. I'm not sure what's the name of it though but it could be the kittyhair that you're talkin about. It's a very thick material and when it dries it can be shaved with a grill-like tool. Thanks for the compliment I try to help the best that I could.
