Default !!!!HELP!!!!!

alrite,
the gs-r won't start.

I bought it as a salvage theft recovery and have been rebuilding it, I'm pretty much 100% of the way done, and my battery keeps goin dead. The origional one died on me, so I just thought it was the battery and replaced it. I've only driven it a few times (i havn't had salvage inspection, so it doesn't even have plates), but every time, it runs PERFECT, absolutly nothing wrong.

I know it's not the starter, b/c when i put the new battery in, the thing started right up. In fact, I had NO problem starting it for like the first 2 wks after I put it in, then one day (after not having started it for ~5 days) the battery was COMPLETLY dead. When I turned the dome light on, it didn't even come on dimly.

I don't think it's the alternator, since the car runs like it's mint.......
(maybe it could be the alternator?)

Then only thing i've been able to come up with is that there's a battery drainage somewhere....The car doesn't even have a stereo in it now, so it can't be that. It DID come w/ an aftermarket security system/ remote keyless entry. After much pondering, the only thing i can think of is that it was installed shitty or something, but I'm not sure of how to check.... I don't have a clue what model security system it is, all I know is that the back of the remote says it's a "Sidewinder".

Any suggestions what I should do? Should I just take it to the mechanic (and probably waste ~$100 on something so stupid)?

God i wish it would start

alternator
the car runs fine for the first couple of times cause its running off of the battery.
but once the battery is dead, there isnt a source recharging it.

Voltage with the engine running should be 14 or 14.5 volts. Even if you turn on all kinds of stuff, it should stay up there. That's a reasonable test for your alternator before you go to the pain of removing it for testing.

After driving for 15 or 20 miles, turn off the car & measure the voltage. Should be around 12.5 volts after a couple minutes. Disconnect the battery cables, leave it overnight or longer. If your battery dies this way, you know it's an internal drain - bad battery.

If your battery doesn't drain when the cables are disconnected, then you can spend your time looking for something that doesn't turn off when you park the car.

i think another way to check if it's the alternator is when the car is running take out the positive wire from the battery ... if the car shuts off then the alternator is dead ...

Sounds like the old alternator, the car will run for a day or two on ther battery but once its drained your back to stage 1. Get that thing checked out.

That's kind of an old way to check, & it still makes some sense. But anything newer than about '76 has enough solid-state components that might be fried by the voltage spikes when you do that.

If you measure voltage with the engine running, you'll be able to tell the difference between 14v (good alternator) vs. 12v (bad alternator).

Exactly what I was thinking, it is either this or your alternator....

could be the alternator. I recommend disconnecting the aftermarket stereo. If the AMP is incorrectly wired up and configured, it could be drawing more power than it should. hope that helps. (alternatively, you can install a capacitor on the system if you dont want to disconnect anything)
