Default B18b or B20?

I'm thinking of taking out the old y7 and being like the Jefferson's and movin' on up to a B18b or B20. Being that there both B series they both drop right into my EG right? With no need for aftermarket mounts right? Sorry if this has been covered like a bazillion times already but hey its sunday and I got nothing else to do. Also whats the difference between the b20's and are the jdm b20 any different than the USDM ones?

In an old edition of Sport Compact Car there is an engine swap guide that lists the 97-98 Crv B20b as having 126hp@5400/133lb-ft@4300. If this is correct, why is this engine hyped up so much. Sure it does have a generous amount of torque but damn, a civic ex has 1 more hp. If this information is correct I would go for the Ls.
unless your going to put a vtec head on it then the B20 would get my vote.

the b20z has 146 hp. and also some people use an ls ecu for the b20b and they dyno it at 130 TO THE WHEELS

there's not that much of a difference. the B20 should have more hp than an LS which is rated at about 140hp. if i recall correctly, i believe the only difference is that one of them has higher compression pistons.

the B20 IMO is a better daily driven motor than the B18b,when to take into the account that you have to put a LS i/m and GSR e/m the B20 makes about 125-130hp at the wheels which is about 150hp flywheel.Plus loads of torque. If going F/I the B18b will last longer at higher boost,Both will be excellent swaps. Also for any B-Series swap your gonna need new mounts the D-series will not work.
The B20Z has a 9.6 c/r where the B20B has 8.8.Any other questions feel free to ask?

i got a 98 jdm b20b.. i heard the compression is the same as the b20z here in usdm. let me tell u the power is incredible. sometimes it feels weak cause i bitch shift.. all i got to do is put the pedal to the floor to remind me the power is there..

careful not to blow the welds on the intake.

Would swapping the ls head onto the B20 make any difference cause the last time I checked there wasn't too much stuff to the B20(i.e cams) Yeah I know it's a b series and they make oddles of stuff but have heard the bottoms ends are not the greatest for boosting. Like I said I just heard so don't jump all over me if it's not true. Are there any price difference between the the us or jdm b20 and then $wise to the b18b? Thanks guys for the good feedback so far.

No it's not, B18C1 is a much smarter way to go.

b16 tranny sucks *** with ls/b20 motors. plus they don't give the ls the room it needs, you'll fly through all the gears within seconds and get no where...gsr tranny is the perfect tranny for an ls/b20 motor.

most people need torque...such as myself. just my opinion but i can't stand the smooth acceleration of the b16. i need something that jerks the hell out of me.

i would take a b20,b18b with a b16 or type r tranny with 4.785 final drive over a b16 with stock tranny anyDAY.....

you say you get through the gears faster but don't go anywhere??? hmmm....GOING THROUGH THE GEARS MEANS YOU ARE GOING SOMEWHERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! holy crap you know nothing!!

shut the **** up bitch, i know what i speak of. short power band+torque+super ******* short gears...do the math punk...massive burn outs. yeah great for acceleration with huge tires but **** for street use. with my gsr tranny i already burn through 4th gear and so does my buddy with a b20z w/gsr tranny.

so if you would like to explain something else that i don't know about...please just shut your rice *** up.

i was using an ls tranny on my b20 in my '90 integra and i could spin from a rolling start. I couldn't imagine using a b16 tranny for it, especially on a light civic. Better get some meaty tires.

so you want to throw down......

your car burns through 4th gear? you are the ricer....learn to modulate....what would you do with a rearwheel drive?? hmmmm....yeah exactly....MODULATION IS YOUR FRIEND!!

i guarentee same car, equal drivers, everything, and i have a 4.785 final drive on a b20 or an b18b MY CAR WILL BE FASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

no it won't have the high top end but if you are trapping 120 mphs then you don't need to worry about it...and when do you need to go 120 on a public road??
