drives door locks/unlocks from inside but not outside

When i got my dx hatch, the drives side door wouldnt lock so i got the plsatic piece that allows it to lock and now it does from the inside....but when im on the outside...i cant get it to lock....anybody know what my problem could be?

take the door panel out and look by where the key lock is and make sure the rod is connected
