2) All bets are off on this one.
3) depends on the bike and your age/record plus type of insurance you require
4) Yes, especially in your area. Use a chain when parked, and keep it in a garage at home, or it will be gone unless it's a junker.
1. Oil changes every 2k miles, plus chain lubing every other ride, cable cleaning as needed, valve adjustments every other oil change, suspension pivot lubing as needed, etc.
2. No. Then again I only speed with the rat bike.
3. Depends on where you live, driving record, age, etc. If you get the 600 rice rocket expect to pay $800 for six months coverage in the NYC area, especially if you're new. Take a MSF course.
4. Yes. If it's not rolled away it's picked up by a few guys and placed in a van. Bikes also tend to hve their electrics exposed. An alarm with tilt sensor may help some but if it's a nice ride they will take it.
Other comments-
Don't be a squid, wear a full face helmet and get some good leathers. Your body will thank you later.
Take the MSF course before spending $$ on the bike.
Get health insurance.
As with cars, it's better if you have a beater bike to ride around as a daily.
Enjoy the bike.

Redblues, Dude tell me you went to the Binghamton MotoX race.
All good advice on the aboves. Little story about the cops. Dont even try to run. Some kid i know just got 2500 in tickets cause he ran. they just took the plate and called his house up later. Not worth it. No matte rhow fast you think you can go. You cant out run a motorola. They can have a road block up so damn fast.
Oh unless you buy a Ducati(POS) you wont really have to worry about valves. The guys look at them when you bring the bike in for service.

Id say any bike within reason could be used to outrun any other bike with the right rider. I had a monster and I loved it. Never had a problem with it, other than too many girls chassing me down the street wanting a ride
