symptoms of new catback exhaust (apexi RS)
hey guys,
i just put on my catback apexi RS (predecesor to WS) and it sounds fine. but during the install i noticed it was going to be hitting the heatshields so I removed all the heatshields. anyways, i test drove it around the neighborhood and when i pulled into the garage i noticed a burning smell, like burning rubber or something. I'm not sure, but I hope i dont have to jack the car up and put the heatshields back on. you guys think that burning smell is normal/will go away? i hope so.

im pretty sure that smell has to do with your new exhaust. after installing a new exhaust, it will smell/burn for the first week, sort of a "break in" period. this happened with my new apex N1. dont worry about it, as for the heat shields, it might get a little hot around the center console, near the e-brake, so becareful not to burn yourself. it gets real hot.
Yeah, I believe that the burning smell is normal. When I had my Greddy evo installed, it smelled for the first 2 weeks or so, kinda like a pizza slightly burning in the oven. My friends brother's rx-7 also had a burning smell when he installed his exhaust. I noticed that the smell mainly came when driving longer distances.
