Default Guys with JDM one piece lights and HID's-

I had a nice pair of PIAA's for my USDM lights but they don't fit the JDM ones unfortunately. I am sick of having to turn my highbeams on to see anything and hitting huge bumps in the road in the middle of the night so I guess it's time to buy some HID's. I have done a search and have not really came up with all the info I need. So I was wondering if you could list the type of HID kit you are running with your JDM one pieces. Feel free to post pics as well. The brands I am looking at are: phillips, catz, xenon. I assume you order an H4 kit?

Upon further thinking... isn't there a harness I can use for the 9006's and then just wire them to the stock wires? When I installed the lights I cut off the clip and just soldered the wires to one another.

from what i remember they fit right in. all you need was the ballest resistor, and the lights, after that its just wiring

Nevermind, I was confusing the harness conversion with the actual bulb install. You are right, the 9006's wont fit in the jdm housing.

Just out of curiousity, do any of you guys have a suggestion for a nice bulb that is fairly cheap?

Well I have the Catz hid on my JDM headlights and they light up the road pretty good. Compare to the stock light, I think they're worth it. I have the hi/low kit and I would have to say that the high is not necessary. Since the JDM headlights have the h1 fog, you can just use that as your high. The high on the Catz kit works OK but it don't light up the road as bright as you'll think it would. If you live in a very dark area like out in the country, it'll help out, but if you live in the city like me than they're just a waist of money. Hope this help.

I'm assuming all you guys have the BLACK housing JDMs. I have set on my Prelude, and I'm in the same situation as you guys are.

I guess the first thing is to make sure your JDMs are aimed properly. Mine are still shooting towards the ground, so that doesn't do me any good. I've played around with the adjustment screws, but they don't seem to do a thing. I guess there was a procedure posted a while back, but I haven't had the chance to find it yet.

I do however wish I would've bought the chrome JDM ones. The black housing JDMS does NOT do a good job reflecting/producing a beam of light. I'm probably going to try a set of HIDs in the spring.

I have Phillips 4300K D2S bulbs in my JDM's, and they work awesome! I even made a 30 sec vid of them starting up but I can't host it

I also have the adapter plates that make it so you can fit D2S' into the H4 housing, and they also have an anti upward flare shield as well...

I would have to agree with CBR, I have black jdm's and they as good or better than the usdm I used to have. These are with whatever bulbs came in them when I bought them off ebay. It is hard to adjust them, but if you make marks on a wall and turn the *****, you will notice them moving eventually.

On another note I also have a 2000 TL with HID's and they are awesome. So if you could get a kit it would be worth it. I would look into a junked TL as all of them from 99 on have them standard (or is it 2000?). Only thing that sucks about those is the bulbs are 250ish for a pair.

I had D2S bulbs mounted in an adapter that had a glareshield that covered the bottom half of the bulb. It blocked all light from the bottom half of the housing, reducing glare. Worked well.

black/chrome should not affect it at all since the parts that are black are not whats reflecting light. they have the opposite flare, so even adjusted up they are designed to flare up to the left, blinding on coming drivers since in japan that would be shining onto signs and stuff. and they drop lower to the right where you need to see signs and the curb etc. since thats where the other drivers are in japan. this pattern can't be changed. you can adjust them up, but it will just blind oncoming drivers more while allowing you to see better. well anyways thats not too serious with regular bulbs, but now with hid's in there it kinda is. just something to think about...
