Question on wheels and slicks
I'm sorry if this has been covered (which I'm sure it has) but my searches weren't getting the info I was looking for.
I have a turbo'd EP3 and I'd like to run a set of 15" wheels and slicks. I can't go smaller that 15" yet, since they won't clear my crappy stock brakes.
Here are all of my questions:
1) What size wheel (width) has the most tire applications?
2) What size slicks are you recommending?
3) What has to be done to mount the slicks? (I've seen them "riveted" on pro drag cars so they don't "spin" off, is that something that that needs to be done at a certain hp range?)
4) Can I use any wheel?
5) What wheels do you recommend for a beginner?
6) What brand tire?
7) Where do you buy from?
If you have any other useful info, I would appreciate it. I've been racing on street tires for years and only recently decided to get a little more "serious" about racing. Sorry for the noob questions.

Hi Steve; the most common width rim size is a 8", now on what size slick to get it depends on what kind of torque you have to the wheels, what kind of set up you have, I recommand M&H slicks, we need more info on your car to get you the right pair of shoes. If I were have to make a guess, the M&H 8.5/24.5-15

Ok, I'm putting down 262whp at 209ft lbs. I'll be upping the boost to 10lbs shortly and that should net me almost 300whp and I'm guessing about 220/230 ftlbs.
I was considering getting a 15x7, is there a decent slick that will fit that wheel? If not, do you (or anyone else) know of a 15x8 wheel you can recommend that won't break the bank AND is relatively light?

Hi Steve; you have a 15x7 wheel now we have the 7.5/23-15 but that takes a 6" rim size, it will work but it might drop the center of the contact patch down, now we have the 8.5/23-15 but that takes a 8" rim size and by useing a 7" rim might bring the center contact patch up, I would look for a 15x8 wheel you have more of a selection in slick size in a 8" .

Ok, I've been searching. There are no 8" wheels made that will fit my car according to the various sites I've been too. What are my options? I know I can just run a 7" in the back, but am I going to rub in the front with the 8s?

Ok, will a 6.5 work? (Sorry, I see that it's a 7.5 width, but I'm not familiar enough to know).

And slicks just mount like regular tires correct? No need to bolt them or anything is there? What psi are people running?

Yeah have them mounted and balanced just like regular tires.
As far as PSI goes that all depends on your set-up and the way you drive I'd say start at like 11 or 12 and go down 1 psi until you like the way it feels.

if you are using the stock rims, you pretty much have to use the 7.5" width slicks from M&H. if you do decide to go wider like an 8" or 8.5" wide slick, a dedicated drag rim like Bogart Racing wheels are the way to go.
We can custom make them any offset and any lug pattern and any width you want. So that shouldnt be a problem in getting the right wheel and slick combo for your ride.

I'd like to get some custom wheels, but I'm not sure when I'll have the $ for them. In the meantime, I'm looking at something like this.

This is from a 92-95 Civic. Is the offset going to work with EP3? Also, if I could get steels from an 01-03 Civic, would those fit my EP3?
Is there any reason I shouldn't run these wheels with slicks for my first time? Sorry for the really noob questions, just trying to learn.

No their is nothing wrong running those wheels you have to start some were, what is that old saying you have to crawl before you walk.

I'm meant start at say 12 if he doesn't like it go down 1 psi to 11 doesn't like that go down 1psi to 10 until he finds where he likes it not go down to 1 psi.

if you need stockies, just hit the local yunkyards. there is u pull it on 441 south of 595, it's only a buck to get in! if you do decide to get slick, i would recommend M&H(you just can't beat john's customer service and knowledge)
