I just broke down my block and rebuilt it. The gear slides on and off the end of the crank. It's held in place by a keyway and key (for lack of a better term). Take numbers 18, 17, and 16 off, then you've got to take the bracket that holds the crank sensor off. After that is off, the #15 gear should slide right off.

If it is stuck, maybe try a lil shot of wd-40 at the mating surface between the outside of the crank and the inside of the gear. After it soaks for a minute or two, gently tap it with a very light ball peen hammer to break any corrosion loose, then slide it off.

Anyone else have anything to add???

BTW the gear is just the crank gear. This gear actually does not turn the oil pump. The oil pump is turned by the crank, just behind this pulley. Just FYI. I've gotten lots of help on H-T, and I'm just tryin to give back.

Have someone help you out. Each of you take a flat head screw driver and use equal amounts of force, prying from 3 and 6 o'clock. Ran into the same problem when I was tearing down my motor.

Grab on to th end of that key carfully wit a visegrip and the tap backwards on it to pull out the key. the gear will come right off after that
