Default Auto tranny problem...could it still be fixed?

I have a 1990 Civic DX hatch with automatic tranny...( car has 295,000 KM)

there is an odd problem, in the morning when I drive the car when its cold, the car refuses to shift into all 4 gears, it gets stuck in 3rd gear or at times just stay in one gear for while then it shifts, but when its all warmed up...everything is fine..

so what the hell is going on here? Is this a sign of auto tranny death?

if my tranny is about too die, are auto trannies from 5th gen civics compatable with my DX motor?

i have the same problem on mine nothing will help it.. the seals inside the trany are worn out.. therefore the trany doesn't create pressure when its cold.. once it warms up the seals get soft and start to seal which is why aftre u drive it awhile it may work fine.. pretty much ur trany is dieing.. are 5th gen tranys combatable?.. no i don't believe so the mounts are different.. and i think its more computer controled.. verus ours are all based on the kick down cable.. and work on pressure.
