Default Took the lude to Limerock yesterday

There are a few threads in the ITR forum but I thought I'd chime in here. All I can say is that this was the best driving experience I ever had. It was my first time on any closed course (never even autoxed it) and I learned alot about what my car can do and what I can do as a driver. Surprisingly I found that my mind had more limits than the car. I lept thinking 'I cant go this fast',but biting my teeth and coming out with alot of speed. Although one time I did end up in the grass on big bend (1st time for everything )

My mods were ST rear anti roll bar, F+R strut braces, SO3s, and F+R Axxis Ultimate pads. This setup worked very nicely for my first time. The tires squealed but stuck (except for that one time ) balance was pretty neutral, and the brakes did not fade much at all but the pedal did feel spongy - And atts helped. I only wish I got SS brake lines and did a brake flush with some superblue.

The whole experience was very counterintuitive. My instructor told me to do things that just felt unnatural like gassing through a turn but it worked and eventually I cought on. All I can say is that I learned alot and met many cool people from the board.

I only met one other luder from here, luder94si, so it would be good if more us came out for next time among the swarms of ITRs, RSXs, WRXs and such. Anyway, I reccomend this to anmyone - definately worth the $ See you all out next time.

YES!!! Finally some more people actually using their car other than the freakin dragstrip

I have another driving event this weekend. Should be really fun. I am going with 5 other friends.

Any pics of you experience??

I only have a Neuspeed strut tower bar, SO3 tires, Axxis Ultimate pads, Legend calipers, VTEC Brembo blanks, Carsound cat, and Thermal exhaust. I am still running on stock suspension.

YES!! Isn't it funny to learn that your instincts are TOTALLY wrong. lol

Sorry - no pics here....I was so busy I didn't even have a chance to take any.....Coldest day I've ever been to a track & it was my first time to Limerock as well..all I can say is that if you've never been to Limerock, you should DEFINITELY go! It's a short track - only about ~1.5 miles, but it is a blast....We had a bunch of trains at times & a hell of a lot of caution & black flags, but we still got a ton of track time.....I took Cal from Maine out as an instructor & he really helped out a lot.
Almost lost it twice....once in the only left hander on the track (Turn 3)...I lifted way too fast and the end came out more than 90 degrees.. Luckily, I was able to counter-steer and put some weight back on the rears...The second time I almost lost it was when I tried to apex the final turn into the straightaway way too early..that was scary at 90+ mph....luckily got out of that one too.....

I case your wondering, my suspension is Koni-Yellows with H&R Sport (the shittiest springs for auto-x & track IMHO), ST 27mm rear sway, & neuspeed strut bars. For brakes, I was using Hawk HP-PLus (front) & Axis Ultimates (Rear), stainless lines, & ATE blue. Brakes felt good, but I still think they could use some work. I was also running the day on Kumho 712's which I also think are the biggest POS. The side wall is so soft & very little grip. On the plus side, they are very audible with their feedback. I had falkens previously & I'm going back to them as my street/auto-x tire. This is a big F*** you to the Tirerack guy who reccomended them to me as an alternative to my old Falkens.

Also, my heel-toeing still needs tons of work (was extremely evident yesterday)...I'm definitely thinking about the ridiculously expensive Mugen pedals just to help out....

COOL!!! You guys should try Summit Point. It is about 2 miles long.

I am hoping to do VIR soon too.

My car handled GREAT with the stock suspension with 165K miles on them. I have KYB AGX shocks and H&R Sport springs. I think I will just get the Skunk2 coilovers instead.

Unfortunately Im too poor to buy a digital camera. My setup is as follows: stock springs/shocks, F+R strut braces, rear 25mm ST anti roll bar, SO3s, F+R axxis ultimates - I wish I had SS lines and put in the superblue.

I also can't heel toe for **** - someone suggested the razo pads - the gas pedal has a nice lip that sticks out for heel toeing so I might go with those (only $40 as opposed to $174 for mugen).

I had 3 instructors, the third (Will from Canada) was the best.

I lost it once - Luder I think you were behind me - on big bend. Came in way too fast, trail braked a bit, was not on the throttle, the rear tires unloaded and I oversteered into the grass thank God. My other 'mishap' was totally planned

Although I pushed the car alot yesterday I know I did not take it to the limits bc the chalk marks on the tires show that. Well, theres always next time I'd be up for doing an overnight deal at Summit if I had enough break from school and work. Are they having any more events this year? Also do you have a layout of the course?

Hey guys, I'm glad to hear you guys are doing something other then drag racing. Thats so over rated, plus our cars really shine a lot on the courses. Anyways I was wondering where these places are, I'm new to this but very intrested and would really like to try. Another thing is, what would be the best upgrade for this venture, because so far looks like suspension and brakes anything else?

If youre in VA then I guess Summit from what Andy said. As for most important mod, I'd say its a toss up between tires and brakes - whichever is in worse shape. Best person to ask is Corey aka Honda318dx. He prolly knows his **** the most on this subject. Or the guys in the roadrace/auto-x forum will guide you in the right direction.

You rang??? Brakes are good to have, don't do jack **** to your motor... More rear swaybar the better! uh.. ok, time for bed.. Glad to see others get addicted at much as I did.. Look at me now, I lost a great street car but at least I have a fast and ugly racecar now

Welcome to the club!! Main goal is to be safe and have fun!! Try to save up some cash for next year, the more you can get to the track the better

Not much, if you drive safe it's not much of an issue. It can happen though, and I'm ok with that fact. I will just rebuild it or get a new one. Now Corey on the other hand likes to wreck his every time it's on track But he is acually racing, and his prelude is towed via flat bed to and from the events and his prelude is never driven on public roads. What the rest of us track junkies do is HPDE or Time Trials, and it's not real racing and the risk of a major wreck is less. However I do see HPDE cars wreck all the time, but that's normally the driver doing something stupid.

Well it seems that my brakes need more attention then my tires (NEW TIRES), what would you recommend for brakes? Full brake system or just put together custom brake system? And also what size rims are good? Will stock be good with some sticky tires?

You don't need to do much to your car. I would say tires are the first thng I would do. Then I would get upgraded brake pads. I think the Axxis Ultimate pads are GREAT if you autoX and do a few track events a year. You really don't need to upgrade much more.

I am trying to do the bear minimum in terms of mods. I just want to drive the car.

Mod the driver...not the car...that's my philosophy!!

So true. I saw 100 hp cars keeping up with much more powerful beasts because they were so damn experienced and knew what they were doing.

h22mark: All I did was upgrade my pads, but I wish I also did full brake fluid change and SS brake lines. If you have vtec brakes you should be fine. If not then the legend caliper upgrade would be worth looking into if you have the cash.

prelude VTEC calipers and rotors is a standard upgrade for people with the small rotors.. Cobalt GT-Sports are great "starter pads" and move up to something more agressive like the GT-VR pad once you have a few track days under your belt... SS lines are nice, but not required.. Fresh brake fluid is a must..

MAKE SURE TO TAKE YOUR FRONT ROTOR BACKING PLATES OFF!!! They only trap heat in next to your rotors..

Yeah, VTEC calipers should be just fine. However, if Legend calipers are as expensive as the VTEC Prelude calipers....go for the Legends. Also, get a nicer set of pads. You don't need to do anything else for brake upgrades. SS brake lines are only necessary for hardcore tracking. The AEM big brake kits are a joke. You don't need them.

Well, I have my track event at Summit Point on Sat. Can't wait. I have to wake up at 5:00am though.

I plan on doing at least two track events a year. Hopefully more though.

Good luck to all. Tracking is where it is at.

I bought a POS 93 Si 2 months ago did a H22A1 swap, tuned with p28 ECU and just did a VTEC caliper/rotor upgrade a week ago. Huge difference in braking and I got them for $25 TOTAL and can't beat any other bolt-on for the price. Only problem is that the next track day (not strip= ) here is a month and a half away. I am not stupid/comfortable enough to push it on the street. Tires are next, either Kumho or Azenis. A week til paycheck and I have already spent it! Can't wait for another track day!
