Soot buildup on rear bumper - running rich or bad o2 sensor?
Heres the story, I have owned my teg for 4 years now. Lately the car has been blowing some light smoke at higher rpm's and the exhaust smells funny also. There also has been alot of black soot buildup on my rear bumper and all over the back of the car. The car runs great besides that. It has 152k miles, it is in great mechanical condition, so what is going on? Running rich? bad o2 sensor?
are you throwing any codes? if not, it is probably air filter or fuel filter. i had the same problem when i bought my teg. running rich as ***! i was throwing a fuel system and an o2 code. i just replaced the fuel filter and problem solved, no more codes, no more black smoke!
but i was running VERY rich, are you burning oil or is it fuel?

A bad 02 sensor sometimes does not give off a check engine light, happen to me. If you suspect your car is running rich, check the fuel filter, air filter, timing, & 02 sensor.
This may be a stupid question, but how do you know if you are throwing codes? Does the check engine light come on?
