I would also like to see pics of that.

Domestics use Autos for consistancy because most of the classes that they run in are like say 10.5 classes you can't run faster than that and you want to get as close to that as possible.

WTF are you talking about? 10.5 class refers to the MAXIMUM TIRE SIZE that they can run. Any Mustang with a 200 shot can run 10.5s.

They run auto's because it's stronger and more consistent. There isn't a clutch available today that can handle 800lbs/tq+ launches instantly, and consistently.

</TD></TR></TABLE> so im guessing there is a tq converter that is better suited for these launches? its so weird becuz all these hondas are trying to use their manual transmission instead of an auto for just the opposite reason....more strength in the manual transmission. correct?? plus power loss through the auto especially in a small displacement motor.

Domestics, high HP cars and especially turbo cars will use autos for consistency, reliability and keeping boost up. Ever seen a manual Supra with 500+ HP try to race? The car is everywhere. Watch the SoCal Redline video and you'll see.

Aren't the Torque converters in the A/T Supras really good though?

im gonna ask WTF are you talking about? yes the 10.5 is the tire size, but i think he was talking about the index classes that run on the .9 (i.e. 10.9, 9.9, 8.9 etc.)

and last time i checked all prostock cars run clutches and those things are pretty consistant. and even some pro mod cars run clutches. and on top of that every top fuel car runs a clutch and not a tq converter.

WTF am i talking about i think you are the one who is lost a lot of the classes that domestics run in IE: sanctioned events have TIMES you can't break out of like i said IE: 10.5 you can't run faster than that just the first thing that popped into my head, think before you respond plz to you

Never seen that video, but that's 1 supra out of thousands that can hook up. Funny, I personally know Ryan Woon and his cousin goes to school with me, and I know that his Supra is insane, and gets wild when launching and shfting. Ever seen one drag...it bobs like a fish luer. (spelling)

Alot of the outlaw street drag cars (domestics) are going to a tranny setup they refer to it as a Bruno tranny or Bruno setup. Its like an automatic mixed with a manual not exactly sure how it works though. Pro Stocks mostly all use Liberty tranny's which the clutch is only used to launch and that is it you just push or pull the shift lever forward or back to select your next gear. Also weight breaks are allowed for certain transmissions in certain classes so you can run a powerglide and be lighter or you can run a Lenco and have to weigh more.

It can take years to learn how to set up a clutch in a pro stock, pro mod and be consistent. Aside from that fact that a Lenco or Liberty trans, bell housing and clutch set up is twice the money as a well built auto trans.

Auto Trans = Bracket racing
Manual trans = Heads up

Not always true but for the most part thats is how it is.

at hold longer and usually take the guesswork out of the drivers hand. not all but some. man of the big honda guys are trying to switch to at but nothing is available that is working, ie lenco or fortin. honda itself makes no at that will hold any power and that is why most of us use 5spd.
