Mario Interview in this month's Road and Track
Good stuff. Talks about his history driving pretty much anything he could. Also talks about that "zone" we so often talk about here. Not remembering his fastest laps and hyperventilating after qualifying runs.
Also some good stuff on the GT-40 in that issue.
Scott, who ditched C/D and now sticks with Grassroots and R/T. Minivans road tests are cool, but I'd rather read about Mario and Dan Gurney.

Mario Andretti and Phil Hill are just too hard for me to warm up to.
I know Mario is "a great racer", and as such has many admirers. He also has many detractors - they say he's a pouf, a baby, etc. Same things they say about Michael.
And Phil Hill is just a bitch. He really should quit taking people up on the offer to get in front of a camera, and just stick to the written word.
Scott, who hears that Dan Gurney is "crazy/weird"....seems like everybody has got something wrong with them eh?

And....speaking of Dan Gurney and Phil Hill, Dan's brother is Don Gurney, a local MSCC club member, agent to Phil Hill, and all around nice guy. Though I haven't seen him for a number of months now.

He was in the Magnaflow exhaust booth right next to the KONI booth at SEMA last Tuesday signing autographs. I have never been a big autograph hunter but I had him sign a hero card for my 3 year old. Ivan "Iron Man" Stewart was there signing autographs the next day but the rest of the time they had two scantilly clad bimbettes signing posters and they had longer waiting lines than Mario or Ivan. Go figure. Heros are one thing, ***** are another.
I was never a huge Mario fan (and never a Michael fan) but you have to have big respect for a guy who drove so many cars across multiple disciplines and did so well. In rodeo they call that "Best All Around Cowboy". A.J. Foyt had similar success across lots of levels of racing but my respect for him generally ended when he got out of the car and his mouth started moving.

Mario, Foyt and Gurney will always be at the top of my list because of their ability to get in anything and win. Tony Stewart is right up there as well.
I know none of them personally, so I don't need to like them personally. I just have huge respect for what they can do wearing nomex and helmet.
Scott, who can't imagine a 60+ year old man who straps himself into an indycar and backflips at 200mph being a "pouf."
If thats a "pouf," then everyone I know is a megapouf.
