DIY Paint job?
Tell me what you think. How would a paint job came out if i bought a nice gun with an air compressor. I feel like i always need to get something painted- mirrors, side skirts, lip etc. What do u think? it would sure as hell save a lot of money.
take it to a professional to get it done properly, there is more to a paint job then you think. Yes, you could do it yourself, but your gonna need more than a nice paint gun and compressor. Your gonna need safety equipment, and since you said you always feel like you need to paint something, this would be a wise addition. So you would need a painters suit, preferably an external air source and mask, but you can sometimes get away with a filtered mask. This is necessary with today's paints that use catalysts to harden because of their toxic chemicals that can cuase your skin to itch and cause serious damage to ur lungs from isocynate poisioning, and you can't even tell if your breathing it in because it has no smell. Then you need a d.a. sander, buffer for afterwards and you have to create a good space to paint in. Since im sure your not gonna spend thousands on a paint booth, you can use plastic curtains to create a more dust free, paint freindly area to paint in. Then there are special techniques that are need to spray the paint, spray certain types of paint, etc. And then what kinda paint are you gonna use, which one will be the least toxic. If i am painting small things like side skirts and mirrors, is my diy paint job gonna match up with the original paint, or is it gonna be different. Ok, there are some things to think about.
Idunno about an airgun, but like that guy was saying above, it'd probably be best to get it done professionally. I've done a couple DIY rattle-cans on my car, but they were for small pieces.
