You're right, I meant the stage 1 cam, but I put the part number for the stage 2
As for the price of valvesprings, I just saw the Skunk2's for $230, so I imagine around that price range.

i personally dont believe that the zex stage 1 will offer that big of a hp gain, maybe 5 or so, but i dont think 10+. in all honesty if u are gonna put a cam in your car you should get all u can out of the cam, which usually means at least valvesprings and increase rev limit. valvesprings can be found for like about 150 for a set of crower or zex to like 250 for the skunk2<- only my dumb *** would buy them
. as for changing the valvesprings, its not really hard, it can get tedious and be a pain in the ***, and is much much easier if the head if off the block cause u dont have to worry about droppin a valve in the cylinder.

From our opinion when we designed our cam, the SOHC VTEC doesnt really like SUper high lift that much. Its not like the DOHC VTEC which have a pretty good lift, the SOHC worked well with a decent lift and a matching Duration. A combination like that works real well on the street, reliable and also great for the track.

the intake lift is close, but the exhaust lift on the crower is much bigger than zex. also the intake duration on the crower is much larger than zex. i think it was import tuner that dynod the 59300 a while ago- got like 7 hp gain, but i think the engine was otherwise stock. while 10 whp is probably attainable, i think that somewhere around 5-8 is more reasonable.

why would you spend the same amount of money for the stage 1 zex cam when you could just get the zex stage 2 59300 cam? Getting 10whp out of that cam is definantely pushing it. If you want that much power get the stage 2. Even then your probably gonna have to tune it well to get that much power. You will be fine with this cam and no valve springs as long as you don't rev past the stock redline. If you want to make the most potential power from this cam then you will need to raise your rev limiter and get the valve springs. I believe you can make power up to 7800rpms with this cam.

I have had a reground cam in for 10k miles. Not a hint of a problem.

again, i'm going to have to disagree. you may be Ok for a while, but the springs will wear out very quickly. look at the specs.... why in the world would crower say that springs and retainers are required with their stage 2 cam if it didn't need it? again, the 53900 is nearly the same duration and more agressive lift than crowers' stage 2

again, lets go back to the original question in this thread. i believe that valvesprings and retainers are required for the stage 2, and that's why i recommended the 51900

they probably said that beacuse valvesprings are required to max the cam out to its full potential. Maybe they also want to get you to buy their valve springs and retainers?
