What does the bar in the rear of the trunk do?

same concept as the strut bars..just ties everything together.
AFAIK it increases rigidity by keeping the rear from *twisiting*
Does it make a *huge* difference.....no

Do you really think it's that significant on a street car?

No, not on a street car but I've been in a friends ITR that had the bar removed during fast highway driving and the *** felt as if it were slipping out.
I'm sure that the affects of removing it are much more dramatic on a course or during an auto x...
I've never removed mine. So i really can't comment any further..

Yeah, It does help. But I still want to buy/build a cross-brace for the Middle.
You know, like the brace they add to Convertibles for strenght when they cut the roof off. It the same reason racer looks for convertible model of cars, if the class of racing allows, of course.
With a stiff chassis you can tune it. Corner weighted..etc.
You've gotta luv a stiff frame.

The trunk brace connects the frame rails. It doesn't look like it does much, but I know that adding one to a non-R makes a difference. Nothing huge, but the car feels a little tighter.
There's also a little known brace in the middle of the Type-R, under the edge of the rear seats. I'm not sure what kind of a difference this makes, but it looks much beefier than that trunk brace.

I can vouch for that.

It's not really a "brace" so to say. All it really does is add 27 pounds to the car and support the rear seats. After I took mine out, I'll be damned if I ever put it in again.
