Default gsr ecu with skunk2 intake manifold

I have a gsr and soon to have skunk2 intake manifold. Was wondering if you could just leave the gsr ecu on or would i need to switch to a diffrent ecu. If so which one? My car is obd2 so i would rather just switch to something where it will be plug and play.

if you switch to a p28 make sure its chipped to run your set up. A stock p28 will not do you any better than the p72. 98ctr

OBD2 p72 is fine, you'll car will get more power, but not be optimized.

Get a p28 with some sort of chip/program that seems like it would work for your car, or send 250-300 on Hondata and get it tuned.

Most assume that already.

i would reccomend that you go Hondata in a P28 conversion, cause if you go with a universal chip like Jun,Skunk2, Mugen....or whatever, you are gonna need something to piggyback the ECU like the VAFC and then a B&M FPR and Gauge, then get some tuning, cause different chips have different fuel maps, some run really lean and others run very rich, and with Hondata the ECU will work well with your setup, but I wouldnt do this, until you do more mods to your car

a p72 will work but.. a chipped P28 would be much better. A del sol vtec P30 would work too, along with a P73 Type R ecu

I have a question, Does the P28 support ABS. Or do you have to use a P72 to use the ABS on an obd-2 car?

I believe ABS is controlled by its own type of computer or control box. And with the P72 and the Skunk2 Manifold, you might notice some flat spots in your power curve. I used to have a P72 (until it was stolen ) and I didn't like it with my Skunk2 Manifold. I bought a chipped ECU from Kenji and it runs great

yea true that. p72 with skunk2 manifold sucks! vtec kicks at 4400rpm and the car bogs. lots of flat spots all over the powerband. Hondata P28 is what u need.

I have a 94 GSR w/ a skunk2 IM as well..but my gsr is already obd1. If you want some dyno numbers in comparing the stock ecu over my custom all motor chipped p28 ecu...click on my vouch thread...the guy who dynoed my car posted up my dyno graph....actually, i'll just post it here......

the blue line indicated my dyno run w/ the chipped p28 ecu......For highway use, I always use my stock p72 just because its a gas saver..but doesnt perform all that great....if you have any questions regarding chipped p28 ecu's and/or obd2-1 conversion harness..., feel free to PM me

BTW: no tuning was done to my car except for cam gears (VAFC would help crank out a couple more ponies and have a smoother power ban....but adj the cam gears didnt really help at all either. mods to my car at the time: aem short ram, skunk2 IM, ctr intake cam, skunk2 cam gears, dc 4-2-1 header, greddy sp cat back. Custom all motor chipped p28 ecu as well

thanks
-Jason
