Default HELP! pressed in clutch cable and heard a snap!....

this is really ****** gay....

88 HF w/B18A1 and 'A1' tranny

my clutch cable was feeling a little funny on the way home, meaning that it would kinda hesitate getting into first at a stop and when it was in it was engaging (with my foot FULLY pressed onto the pedal). so when i got home (after at a light the ****** thing WOULD NOT GO INTO GEAR) and looked over the cable every thing seemed ok, tention was good etc. loosened it up a little to see if that would change how it felt and SNAP!!! (nice short crisp sound) cable still seems to be attached (i grabbed the end and it wont pull out) but now im affraid to do anything, the arm on the tranny seems to move further than it did before which REALLY bothers me expecally sence we just put a brand new clutch in and dont wont to pull the ****** tranny agian. installed a AI2-XTSS ACT clutch.... this is pissing me off....

how far should the arm on the tranny move with ZERO tension on it??????

it sounds like the little ears on the spring for the throwout bearing broke. i had the same thing happen to me last year. i pressed in the clutch, heard a pop, and it wouldn't go into gear. i had to adjust the hell out of the cable to get it to go into gear. when i dropped the tranny i found the 2 little ears of the spring sheared off.

hmm. i wouldn't be surprised if that spring broke.. i've broken at least 3. i don't know why.. is it a pretty common thing to break? i didnt even notice they were broken until i pulled the tranny off.

the same kind of thing happened to me a few months ago.. i was backing out of a parking space, and i heard a loud snap, and the car stalled. the clutch pedal went reallly loose, and the car was stuck in gear. my first thought was that i snapped the cable, but when i checked under the hood, all i had to do was tighten it back up, and the car was cool. like what was said above.. i think it was that spring.. i ahven't pulled the tranny to look at it though so i can't be sure.

the spring that pulls the T/O bearing away from the PP?? that is brand new! bought a new one in mid august cuz the one in the tranny didnt have the little arms that hold onto the T/O bearing (this was when i did the swap). you think i broke that only 2-3months later?

can i drive the car with a broken spring if thats what it is??

In my 88hf w/ b18a the same **** happened to me, pressed in the pedal then it felt like it snapped then it stuck to the floor. All i had to do to fix it was adjust where it connects to the arm on the tranny.

I had a similar thing happen to me, what everyone is describing: a loud snap and a loss in pressure on the clutch. For me it was the adjustment **** on the cable slipping. And just like everyone else I just adjusted it back to normal and it's been fine for years.

I guess it just didn't hold under some pressure, snapped and just skipped a bunch of threads. But I would just put it back on, if it works, then it works

are you sure you put the spring in right when you replaced it? because when i did that, i put the lil arms in wrong and my car ran fine for a week, and then the pedal just sank to the floor

I had something similiar happen to me. Check to see if when you pressed in the clutch, if the bracket snapped. That could be the reason why the cable seems fine. Hope this helps...
