Place Racing Crossmember Pictures and some install tips!!!
i had another post but i'll just keep this all under one roof...and like my other post want to say thanks to Tom at Camp1320 for hooking me with an unbelievable deal, giving me all the knowledge i needed to know..and even driving to meet me to deliver the x-member....www.camp1320.com has a faithful customer for life!!
ok now to the x member...basically i got the crossmember cause i hit a semi-truck tire at 70mph on the freeway, cracked my stock one and bent my frame a little, destroyed my radiator, and now my hood wouldn't close cause the mounting positions for my rad is pushed in...
well i could spend about $600 to get my poor little sedan back in shape...or just get a Place Racing crossmember for under $200...i don't think thats a hard decision.
Intall:
First off the entire install took me about 1hr (i had drive to ACE to pick up some sockets) and i didn't even jack up my car...well my car was too low so i couldn't do it and didn't want to run out and buy a $30 dollar jack.
things needed:
14mm Socket
11/16 Socket..make sure you have a deep set socket.
oh yeah and Place Racing crossmember may help.
1.) you have to remove your tow hooks which consist of 3 14mm bolts on either fenderwall
2.) remove the bolt on your radius rod with the 11/16 deep socket.
3.) now there are only two more 11/16 bolts on either side of your stock crossmember..make sure you have a brick or something to support the crossmember whent he bolts are off so it doesn't put all the weight on the radius rods.
4.)slide the crossmember down and off the radius rods...you do have to jerk and jimmy a little but i comes off pretty easy.
And installing your new x member is pretty much the reverse of that
honestly one of the simplest mods i've done...aside from installing an intake.
here are some pics...
my beautiful new x member...slept snuggly next to me on that bed all night (girlfriend and cat got the couch)
this is with no crossmember
front view
side view...the crossmember hangs about 1 inch lower than stock.
and top view..looks damn close to the image where there is no crossmember
i am still using the stock radiator and have an EG one in the mail as we speak..however i dont' know when i can get that install done because i said from that tire my frame is not interferring with the EG mount locations on the PR crossmember so i'll have to hammer it out or do something.
hope this helps all...and answers some questions.

well i'm using it pretty much as a stock replacement, i don't race, i don't autocross, although i do care about reduction in wheel hop and weight, it doesn't mean much in its daily driving use.
driving it around though it does seem more rigid in the front, steering response seems improved....basically i just like it cause of the look, i can use a dual core eg radiator, and the fact that insurance is paying for it!!

What? Your tire did what to your frame interferring with your EG radiator mount locations?

come on people i really didn't sleep next to my crossmember...
and i saying that...i had hit a semi-truck tire on the freeway which pushed in my frame, destroyed my radiator, and cracked my old crossmember...thats the whole reason why i got the place racing...
however the frame is now overlapping on of the eg mount locations on the crossmember so i need to bend it out or something.
