Went to the Track... this engine/gearbox won't die...
Yes, another 2.4mi hot lap day...
Yes, the B16A and S1 gearbox are still running.
No, I can't seem to break it.
I was for sure I'd grenade the gearbox earlier this year, after the 3rd gear and 4th gear synchro decided to take a hike...making every shift into 3rd anf 4th a grind at any RPM higher than 3000rpms.
The engine is beginning to finally shoot smoke out the taillpipe. Oil is leaking from the VTEC solenoid gasket to the head. I'm sure the rings are pretty worn.
Yet, it still runs relatively strong. I love this engine.
After 7500+ race miles, from drag racing, autocrossing, and hot laps... the only things i have replaced on the engine (outside of the first initial maintenance job) is:
1. oil
2. oil filter
3. distributor cap & rotor (rotor screw backed out, causing the rotor to spin off the shaft and destroy the cap).
4. Gearbox fluid three weeks ago.
that's it. haven't replaced the timing belt. the spark plugs are still as is when I replaced them when I got the engine (some 8500miles ago). No cam seals were ever installed. The water pump was never replaced (even when i got it). Never replaced an axle (not engine based, but, still).
another fun hot lap day...

Nice to hear more reliability stories of the JDM engine/trannies... I know you beat your to death! I've seen/heard the videos!

I've read little bits and pieces of this, but, haven't dug too deep yet. I should probably research this huh...
