04RSX Grinding 3rd
ok, so finally bought my dream car... 04 RSX S... driving it home, I noticed some difficulty in the 2-3 shift at moderate RPM. I figured it was just from being used to my 91 integra... It's now been almost 1000 miles and now I"m sure it's messed up. Anyone heard anything about this?

i have a 02 rsx-s....and my 2nd to 3rd gear is tempermental as well.....i hear everyone else say 2nd gear grinds....but my second gear doesnt grind at all.....but i am an rsx owner who does have the 3rd gear problem...
i have heard that the type s tranny is known for gears grinding, at least that's what they say in clubrsx.. but most of the peeps just learn to live with it. i have also heard that in the new 04 models acura was suppose to fix the synchro problem with the type s tranny..

I felt the same way when i fisrt got mine S. I thought somethign was wrong with third. I have 3025 miles now at about 1000 i realized it was just me. The S like you to push the clutch all the way down to shift gears. If you try to push it down halfway and shift it will grind and make that awful noise. Just try shifting driving normal. I mean if your racing it, your probably not going to shift very well, because the S is alot different from the B-Series. In the S the gears are right there, they so short and quick. It takes some getting used to. So just drive normal and shift from second to third. Im sure it silky smooth.
dadadadaaadadadad.......ongoing problem that honda does not want to disclose to the public for fear of a bad reputation....if they would admit their car problems and fix them under warranty like nissan did with there Spec-V last year, maybe we would all start buying more and complaining less
I am beggining to dislike Honda Corporation as a whole, VTEC still rules though hahaha

Whats up with that? So do I. I have a 03 type-s with @8,000 mile son it and I noticed that when I drive casually that sometimes third gear has this two-stage notchy feeling, when I think I am in third and let the clutch out it grinds, then after I depress the clutch again I can feel the nothcyness to it. I think there may be a problem. If I am driving spiritedly there is never a problem. Just casual????

I also feel the notchyness, but only in 3rd... today I was hard on it for the first time. I flat shifted 2nd 3rd and 4th 3 times and never had a problem. Then later on I was casually driving and the 2-3 at about 3500 rpm felt like it was in, then grinded like hell when I let out the clutch. we'll see what the dealer says on wednesday morning.
There really is a problem with the trans would people please tell me if they have a coldair intake attached or not...... the DC cold will sometimes moved and rub the shift linkage weight. if you have a short shifter and this problem is also occuring trust me honda corp WILL find a way to weazel out of it.
i am also a 2004 milano red rsx s owner and have that problem. from 1st to 2nd its fine but using the same strength (which is not that hard) going in to 3rd it feels like its in. But its not and the ***** grinds!! I have to sometimes bring it to neutral and jam that stick into 3rd to be sure

Please keep me informed on this, I work for a dealer and my 03-does that exact same thing, I really want to know what they are going to do, hopefully they will take the tranny out and split it open and inspect it...

I have an 03 w/ a March build date, so far no problems with the transmission. If anything it has been getting smoother. Guess it is hit or miss. My buddy's 02 S has already had his transmission replaced w/ the TSB, still not as smooth as mine. Guess I lucked out.
Called the dealer yesterday morning, told them everything, they of course want to see it themselves, but they said most likely I'll be getting a new trans.
on a side note, for everyone with crazy high insurance rates, I raised my deductable to 1000 and it dropped it 1500 a year. that's fantastic

Even though I don't drive an RSX, my car is similar. I used to get second gear grind (and on the occasion I'd grind third). I just changed the way I shifted (holding the shifter from the top like a ball now instead of holding it like a bar) and that pretty much fixed my errors. I get notchiness when its cold though.
