89 Accord exi - Need Tranny advice
I drive a 5 speed 89 Accord exi
I burnt out fifth gear a few days ago. Is it possible to fix the gear, or is it better to just find a newer tranny.
I've been thinking about a newer tranny and motor to try to up the ***** on the car. Will a newer tranny fit in my 89, and are there any years to stay away from, like a recall year or anything on transmission?
The car has 430 000 klicks on it, so if I get a new tranny, I'll probably get the clutch replaced at the same time as they do the tranny to save on labor later. Not a bad run for the original clutch.

the trannies from the 88-89 Lxi's are well built & pretty bulletproof. If you keep your motor, you'd be better off staying within those years PLUS you'd probably find that tranny for ~$80bucks.
I believe the top-end lxi's had the better (sportier) gearing. Find 88lxi....he's H-T's resident 3g guru.
