What can be done to an 83 Accord?!?
I recently took on a new project just to play around with and that is an 83 Accord Hatchback. It's in good running condition, but the bodywork is bad. Basically I was wondering what I could do this car? The local shop has never had an 83 Accord come in(understandable), but I just want to do some things to this car for fun. It's a 4th car so it can have down time. Anything at all that can be done, let me know. Thanks.
you could pick up some factory honda overbore pistons, shave them down a bit, mill the **** out of the head, weber performance 2 barrel carb, insane amounts of weight reduction, etc. the list goes on and on.....
take out the motor, tranny, fuel tank. Save the axles. Get a fuel cell for the back, and fabricate a mount for a B series engine. grab a quad carb setup from a motorcycle, put some velocity stacks on there, and attach them to the engine. set up the exhaust, etc.
fab new axles for the car from the old ones, and there ya go.
nah, your best bet would probably be with the weber carb like the above post says. you might be able to swap some parts from an old prelude of the similar year, though those are super-rare and hard to find.

Thank you. I was wondering if parts were interchangable with the Prelude.
I don't want to do anything drastic and spend lots of money to fabricate mounts for a B-series motor. The Weber carb sounds good.

Do you know anyone who has mounts for this. The problem is that it'll cost money, and I don't want to put that much money into something like this. I'd rather put that much money towards my S2000 or STi.

Ok...from what im seeing here is that you have two fantastic sports cars and an awesome hauler of a truck. Obviously the accord is never gonna stack up to its two younger siblings performance wise, so why not just make it into a pimped out cruiser. No before the flame throwers come out just open you minds up to the thought of a bad *** slammed 83 accord...deck the interior out like cheech and chong's van in "up in smoke" and put enough base in the trunk to knock the fillings out of your teeth. Or might I suggest taking it out to the salt flats in Utah and filling it with about 2,000 rounds of your favorite ammunition

I've wondered the same thing myself. I've been looking for a decent condition accord hatchback to do something fun in, but i had no idea where to start.
Glad to see i'm not the only one.

I am sort of in the same dilema, I got an '85 Accord LX from my neighbors for free to use for a winter beater, but I have been wanting to do a few things to it make it quicker, handle better, etc., but there aren't too many parts out there. I did manage to find a few places and parts are actually really cheap since they just want to get them out of stock. Check out http://www.classicgarage.com/ - they have an ANSA exhaust for the hatchback models, along with Koni strut inserts and Vestatek front bumper spoilers and rear spoilers. It isn't much, but it would be something to set your Accord apart from the rest.
I've decided just to get mine in the best shape possible, throw in a decent stereo and just use it to keep the miles off my other cars. I had the valves adjusted and a few leaks taken care of and a tune up and it runs great, doesn't burn a drop of oil and gets 30 mpg consistently and drives about as well as you can expect an almost 20 year old car to drive. To get any kind of performance out of the ES2 (or ES3) it would cost a ton of $$. I am tempted to throw a 50 wet shot on it and see how it takes it, but I am not sure how it would work with the CVCC combustion chambers. The factory manual says that slight detonation is OK, but I think the design of the combustion chambers (how it has very lean spots in the cylinders) could cause some problems with nitrous and I don't want to take a chance.
If you do need any parts off of a junked car, I know where there is an almost perfect Accord hatch in a junkyard near me, I have no idea why it is in there because it looks mostly intact.

Doing what? If I might ask.
Your story is alittle unbelieveable.
You have nothing older than an '01 and have paid some off already?
I'll assume you bought them used and for good prices
S2000- 24k
Accord- 17k
Sti- 32k
Tundra- 30k
Thats $103,000 worth of cars.
Why not sell, and have a Viper and a Tundra?
$103,000 over approximately 5 years in a 6% loan is a monthly payment of about $2,000
Assuming you are only 18, and havent been driving since before you were 16, you acquired the cars within the last 2 years. So tell us what you do at 18 years old to pay 1500-2000 a month BEFORE insurance
Or you could just say the cars belong to your entire family and the '83 accord is your car

no way a bank would have given you a loan at 16 for an S2000
