Default Fuel leak! :O

I just got back from my honeymoon. I decided to take the Civic out and fill up the tank. For the last 3 weeks I have been noticing that my car was smelling of gas. I filled the tank up and drove home. Got home went outside to see a puddle of gas on the ground! Im guessing the gas is leaking somewhere up top since it didnt leak fuel when it was half full. Does anyone know what could be leaking? Is it the tank or possible a gasket dried out? Any help is appreciated thanks

There is a problem with the filler tube coroding on Hondas of that vintage. Some have had the problem corrected by Honda at little or no cost. Might be worth checking out.

Well me and a friend tore it apart tonight. Found out that the seem that is welded together on the tank rusted apart and was opening! Odd thing is the car has 0 rust other wise.

With that said anyone know where I can buy a new gas tank? Thanks

Yea, I'd try bitching at honda first. If not, then if a new gas tank (or one from another rex) is too much, maybe cut out the rust and weld a new plate in place?

gas and fire dont mix well. take it to a shop to get welded up or get a new tank. that way if it blows up it will be far away from you and your car.

check ebay ive seen new tanks on there before if memery serves me right they were around 100 bucks and personally for that price i dont think you can screw aorund with the other one... Im not so sure you could get a welding shop to touch a gas tank, gas fumes are flamable and i doubt you could get the fumes out of a tank. just some ideas...HTH

I've seen radiator repair shops repair gas tanks many times by welding or brazing a penny on a hole. I don't see why they couldn't do that with a plate.

hey sporkcrx, yeah i have the same problem, i'm leaking at the seams as well. just get a new gas tank and while your at it, look for a new fuel pump, preferabably a ITR one or a Walboro.
i'm going to get a new tank soon too. been leakign for a while, its only leaking at the seems and i have to fill up only half a tank.
