Default Odyssey motor -vs- Accord motor.

Good day! I am looking to purchase a 95-96 Honda Odyssey. What I was wondering is if the F22 in the Odyssey is the same as the F22 in the Accord's. I was wondering this because, call me crazy, I wanted to improve the performance of this vehicle. I was planning on doing your basic bolt-on's; header, intake, exhaust(found one specific for Odyssey), pulleys, etc.

Any info from you knowledgable Accord gods would be great.

I agree, from what I've heard, this is the best route.

Re-Read his post guys, he isn't asking which motor is better, he is BUYING AN ODYSSEY and wants to know if the 2 motors are the same or not. I personally do not know. What is the exact lettering on the motor? f22b1, f22b2, etc...

I don't know the exact lettering, I guess I should find out. I also noticed that the '98 Odyssey came with the F23. Would this be the same as the '98 Accord?

I really want to upgrade this vehicle. Like I said, call me wierd.

motors are the same up to 97.
My friend put my old F22 into his Oddy.
Not too sure what bolt on's would be interchangeable though other than maybe pulley's, cam gear, etc which is kinda a waste IMO on a Oddysey.

the motors in the 1st gen odysseys probably have just regular f22b2's, 2.2 nonvtec SOHC motors making around 140 hp(but had 10:1 c/r compared to 8.8 c/r in accords). in 98, they offerd the f23 which make 150 hp(sohc vtec motor, also found in the 98-02 4 cyl accord ).

Wow. Some of you guys (TypeSH, AWD 20T, Feddie, 97F22B2) really do have a problem, you didn't even bother reading the post before answering. Why bother answering anything while you're too lazy to even read what the guy is asking first?

Here are the engine codes:
95-97 Odyssey: F22B6
98-02 Odyssey: J35A1
03+ Odyssey: J35A3

Research is your friend. It prevents you from looking like a total *** when you post.

Edit: I don't know if you will be able to use the same headers as the B1, but the pulleys, intake and a few other bolt-ons should work. On an Odyssey, because of the weight, you would especially want to work with torque-oriented modifications.

he could use an LX header as long as he knows he may have to modify the "B" pipe. But a header would be put to great use on an Odyssey. Intake, header, exhaust, power steering pulley (I highly DO NOT recommend the alternator, esp. if this is going to be a family car. something about F alternators not liking the low voltage. i went through 2 Optima blue tops with one AEM pulley.)

also, i believe there was a 4-cylinder Odyssey option in '98, right? That would go with his F23 sighting under the hood. when did they change over to V6 only Odysseys?

that should get you started. if you want to be a pimp, you could drop in an H22.

I believe the 95-97 Odyssey had a motor similar to the 92-93 EX which had 140. there parts for that are probably will probably work.

The '04 odyssey that my sister just purchased came with a 240 hp SOHC VTEC V6. That is all I know, pretty badass for a minivan though.

Thanks for all the info. I know it sounds a little off base, but being a school teacher i need the extra room. I just can't get myself to buy an SUV and my EF hatch isn't much of a people hauler. I like the 1st gen Odyssey because it seats seven and weighs in at only 3200 lbs. I don't want a newer Odyssey because they weigh over 4000lbs. Also, after watching an Option Video I really got hooked. Top Fuel had a turbocharged Odyssey and it was sick. I have found a Buddy Club Racing Spec exhaust, and Tein Wagon Spec coilovers.

Here are a couple of pics that got me motivated.

I'm surprised no one has said "F' the Fmotor. You should swap in a [insert favorite motor] euro-spec/JDM H22"

I have wondered if that is possible. I guess I will wait till I get the van to look at that option. It would probably be a first.

I have followed that vehicle for years. It is actually his mom's. I saw it at Nopi about four years ago. Wings West also uses it on their websit to model their lip on kit. The powerplant is still an F22, just turboed

You know what would be sick... is if you do get the oddessy, get a f22 turbo kit for it....

I know it is possible, because I saw it done a loong time ago, cant remember what mag it was in though... It was an orange oddessey, w/ racing seats, slammed, turboed, the whole nine yards, it was pretty bad ***....

EDIT: I found it... on speedoptions...

...Man, Honda is really letting the new SI get uglier and uglier (j/k ). Sorry I had too, couldn't help myself. Anyway, I know Mugen made a header and exhaust for the Ody...even a front lip for it too. I was pretty surprised when I found out how much some people in Japan modified their vans. You can find some crazy pictures of mini vans out there, anyway good luck

Thanks juicedh22. That is some serious info, and motivation. I know my idea isn't original, but it is less common than a Civic. I guess growing up isn't to bad afterall.

Let me get you started with mods:

Make me an offer. I also posted it on Odyclub.com I'd highly suggest checking out their forums too for Ody mods.

Does anyone know a definite answer?

if a US model 95 H22 Automatic "will bolt" into a 95 Oddyssey?

I know some wires modification will be needed and A/C & PS lines will be an issue..
