Tried to STEAL my R
Some damn Theives broke into my R tonight inside a shopping mall parking lot. The pried open my passanger side window and got into the car where they preceeded to break my stearing collum cover. From there they unbolted my ignition core. I guess they got scared w/ the alarm going off and the amount of attention they were getting because they left. Nothing stolen from inside. When i got off work and went to my car i noticed my CD deck was on. I called the cops immediately after i noticed my stearing collum cover on the passanger side floor.
Good news is my R is still with me and there is no real damage done. I just need a new plastic cover for the collum. Secondly the idiots didnt' use gloves so the cops got a nice print off the passanger side window. They are going DOWN!!! I'm so releived that my car is safe in my garage now.

Not to cause a [FIRE] but why is everyone calling the thieves stupid one this ?
I would call the owner stupid before the thieves, Bring an R to a "shopping mall parking lot" ?????
The thieves were only doing what is normal, well kinda...

That sucks and where you work is a pretty nice area too. You should consider using a different car for work. Let me know if you need replacement parts. A friend of mine can get cheap parts.

You're lucky.
Anyone have an idea how to protect the steering column from theives? Plastic cover seems to be quite easy for theives to get at and take off with the car.
Finger prints won't help unless they have had a previous arrest.

No he's right. I have friends who steal steering wheel column covers to replace broken ones!

both Mark and Jonas are straight up guys.
Personally I think its stupid for theives to try to steal cars in the parking lot of a shopping mall considering the amount of ppl that walk by. Especially since is the holiday season.

Even though I live in the middle of nowhere, all the posts Iv'e read on theft lately has given me a real make-up call! Of course I have an alarm on my R but I'm thinking of upgrading to that new Viper alarm system. You can never be too safe! Glad you still have your R man!!!!!!!!!!!

Exactly what I was thinking. Shopping mall parking lots are not a nice place to leave it. Not even for 30-20 minutes.

Its so horrible to think that one can't even park their own car in a shopping mall without having to worry about theft.
This really is getting old, and we hear similar stories way too often.

Ok so, why doesn't someone park their R in a mall parking lot and have a stake-out? We could catch a new thief each day! why has no one done this? set up a video cam, sit a few cars away with some of your BIGGEST buddies (hired goons) and just sit their and wait for the fun to begin
