Default What a Difference: JDM Center Console

Wow, I never realized how much the USDM center console/armrest was interfering with shifting. I installed the JDM center console today (thanks Mike and IPS Racing) and I love it.

Good change to the cockpit in my opinion.

I *was* going to switch to that console, then everyone threw fits about saving a few ounces. Be warned that if you happen to place well in STX, you might be protested.

Yep, I was the same way. After I replaced mine, I can't go back.

Might depend on how you use the car.

I have the JDM centre on my ITR, which is mostly on the track. However, I miss having a centre armrest on my EP3 daily commuter.

hmmm, makes me think- I just drove around for a couple days with no center console at all while I was installing my new Clarion and I can't say I remember any advantage to it being off (though it was annoying that I didn't have my CD's). shrug

just a little friendly screen saver so my passengers are kept in line, lol

since you probably saw the image icon on this thread and thought there was a pic, but it was just my pic jacking this thread... (sorry Flux) then i'll be the good samaritan and provide the pic (cause, it was so much work to do)

another gripe of mine about the JDM console would be that you also lose the use of the little tray thing in the middle (where my extra keys, gum, receipts, etc. go!) lol

Yup. Used to put my cigarettes and cellular phone there. Now I have to put it in the tiny storage area in front of the shifter and hope it doesn't go flying out somewhere. Now I know why they have that overhead storage tray accessory from Honda (in Japan). I guess I'll need to get one now.

I took my entire interior out to give it a try.

needless to say, with stock seats there's something to be desired. if you're running an aftermarket seat (needfull things aside) then it doesn't make a difference.

unfortunatly if you have recaros, its harder to adjust the seats if you leave your armrest on.

I have a Sparco in my car and the stock arm rest dosen't let u shift into 2nd or 4th w/ the cover on. I had to take off the cover and my arm still hits the center console if im not conscious of it during shifting.
I think it all depends on the how tall/what build you are.

I must have disproportionate hands/legs because I've never hit the console with my hands yet I bang my knee on the door panels all the time.

i couldnt imagine driving without my armrest just a habit to rest my arm during shifting and long drives. I only would want it so i can reach the adjustment ***** on my seats easier

I took my center console out for a while when doing some wiring but didn't notice anything with my shifts. Do you have to have a racing seat to tell a difference? I did kinda like the feeling w/ it out though.

I want to see a pic of the over head storage that sounds hot.
