Default Overfilled my oil, cause for concern?

Just checked my oil cold, very high. After a brief warm up, I let it cool down for about 5-10 minutes, still slightly high, should I drain some, or is this something I shouldn't worry about? Any suggestions are appreciated

Yes, and yes. Foaming oil is not good.

Drain and refill with 4 quarts. Done.

I wouldn't worry about the oil being "slightly high".

If it's over by less than half a quart, don't worry about it.

If it's over by more than a quart, drain it.

In between, toss-up, your choice.

The stock honda oil filters don't hold 1/2 quart, do they? Honda recommends 4.2 quarts, I figure thats 4 quarts and the oil filter.................I added some oil about a week ago because I was burning quite a bit, although I guess I added too much. I'm gonna loosen the drain bolt just a hair and try to level it out, instead of draining it all and redoing the entire process. It wouldn't be a big deal to do it all again if it weren't 10 degrees out. NH winters =

Yeah, I overfill when I use Mobil1 just because I burn it and want to have extra in there.

I wouldn't worry too much. Follow rules nsxtasy gave.

How can I tell if I fucked something up within the engine. I drove it about 30 miles w/ it overfilled, then I drained it and changed it. I took it for a drive today and it seemed sluggish, think it's related??

Yeah, I need an answer to this too. Also, I filled it pretty close to a quart over, pretty much a dumbass move, but it was over the course of a couple weeks, thought it was burning, guess it wasn't

you can check the oil anytime.. cold or hot. if its cold then that is pretty much where the oil is because it is all drained to the pan. if the car has been ran, then you check it, you need to compensate for some oil in the head so its roughly 1/2 quart off.

someone elaborate on the COLD vs HOT deal. i just figured cold meant its all settled in the pan, and hot meaning you just turned the car off.

but too much oil can do damage. at least for v-8s i know it can, it basically does the same thing water does, hydrolock, but its called somthing else i think. just be carefull and if its too high, drain some out. and sell it back

i always figured after it'd been running for a bit. the manual says to fill the oil, then let it run for a few minutes, re-check, then add as necessary. right?

I'm not sure about that, would it be quite obvious as to whether something was damaged or would you have to open it up and inspect the rings?? As I said before, I over did it by about a quart.

pretty sure they tell you to run it so you can see if any is leaking/dripping. I remember the manual saying if so then reinspect your work.

I say just drain a little like you said you did. It shouldn't be a problem I mean you should have it resolved in less than an hr.
