Seeking advice from the experts here on '95 EX with 5sp
I've got an extra car I've been thinking about tinkering with but I'm trying to decide if it's worth it. It's a bone stock 4-door '95 accord ex with the 5speed trany, 16" aluminum wheels, etc. Has 127K on it and we've owned it since new. Cars in good shape overall and I've been using it as a daily driver (My other cars a ...well, lets just leave that there for now as it doesn't matter for this post). Thought about turboing it and have an extra bay and mechanical aptitude to work on 'em. How much power can I get out of it and for what price? Other option is to sell it. What's it worth to you guys who know what can be done with them?
i would personally boost it with a custom made kit for minimum skrilla depending on your budget and what kinds of parts you wanna use. You can make one foe 1500 bux if your good. Your other option is to swap in an H22a from a Prelude but those can cost more dpending on what needs fixed and thepalce you buy the motor. Id say the car is worth about 5500 to 5 depending on body condition and motor treatment.
you can pick up a kit for about $2k, and put down maybe 200hp to the wheels with conservative tuning. since it's your daily driver i wouldnt try to get much more out of it without building the engine up.
Thanks for the reply. I take it an H22 is a different motor? Engine swaps are definitely off the page. Would like to leave the engine alone and simply add a TT to make it run a little quicker. I've seen references to f22 and h22. What's the difference (Year of mfg)? The 5K to 5500 you mentioned. Is that before or after the kit?
Thanks flux - what kind of kit can I get for $2K and where? I don't mind "some" engine stuff but don't really want to get into a complete rebuild or anything with this one.
If I do the turbo and leave the engine "mostly" alone. What kind of costs would I be looking at for the fmax solution? Fmax I assume is a brand? How well does the investment translate when I go to resale? If the car's worth $5K today and I spend $2K on a turbo, is there a market out there of guys willing to spend $7K so that they can take it to the next levels or is any turbo investment at this point simply for my gratification?

If you are thinking about selling the car, I would not modify it. You usually dont get the money that's invested, in to the car, out of the car when you sell it. Keep in mind if you spend 2k on a turbo kit you will still have to pay some one to put it on and tunning it. I personally love accord and think that it is worth the time and money tunning it.
P.S. a H22 is the dual cam vtec perlude motor
