First time running on 20x6x14 MT slicks, analyze my times, "stock" GSR
This past Weds night at Sacramento Raceway. Elevation is near sea level. Temperatures were around the 50's, high 40's.
And for reference my setup is as follows:
-96 GS-R 2dr
-No weight reduction, full interior, seats, jack, spare all in place. 2786lbs with me in it.
-18 deg adv timing
-3" shortram intake
-ES motor mount inserts
-GC/AGX set to 4 front and rear, wasn't slammed, about 2 finger gap
-stock everything else
-20x6x14 MT ET slicks on 14x5 CRX wheels
Started the tires at 15psi. Did a 2nd gear burnout, smoked the tires. Staged. But I saw the staging lights flickering, so it had me puzzled at the line, and I didn't get a clean launch. 2.4 60' and 15.3 ET.
Apparently my plastic splash guard that's under the front bumper, near the header, was hanging lower than usual causing the staging lights to come on before the tires were staged. I tried to push it back up, but no avail.
So I check the tires, they went up to 17 psi. I aired them down to 15psi again. The sidewall didn't look too good, so I didn't want to try any lower. Staging lights still flickered, but got the car to stage correct. I stage shallow. 6k clutch dump, mash throttle. Here's the first clean run: Sorry if the pics are too dark turn up your contrast or brightness.

Here's the second clean run. Same technique as above. I aired the slicks down a few more psi, which I shouldn't have.

The tires were getting cold from the long wait to run again, losing pressure. Although they may be leaking also. By the time to run again, the pressure was too low so I wasn't allowed to run. No one around with an air compressor either, so I just put my street tires back on and made one last run. It was horrible. Then I just went home.
Here are some timeslips from 2 weeks before. Same setup, except I was on Nitto NT-555R drag radials 205/55-14 (17psi) mounted on the same wheels as the slicks. I would say the temps were around 60's high 50's. Same launching: 6k clutch dumps.
1st run, dry burnout, BAD wheelhop on the launch! Every run thereafter I used the burnout box. The Nittos basically spun most of the time. I know I shouldn't have used the box, but it didn't seem to affect my times much.

I feel I can get a 1.9 60' on the slicks with a 14.8 ET. I also noticed how bad my alignment was with the slicks on. To keep the car straight, the steering wheel was turned to the right about 30 degrees. Yeah it's bad, but it's almost unnoticable with my hardass street tires, BFG Euro T/A's.
How much could that have affected my times?
And another thing; with the tires being only 20", I had to shift into 4th well before the finish. With my street tires, as well as the Nitto's, I was shifting into 4th right before the finish. Let me guys have your inputs. Thanks. I'm done rambling now.

Woohoo, need ya' some nodoz. Reaction time did get better. Remember go on the last yellow dont wait for green.
20x8x14's are needed BADLY!!!!!!!!!! Might even wanna jump to 22" slicks.
I can cut 1.9's on the skinny slicks in my SOHC Civic. The GSR motor simply has too much power for the skinny slicks. BTW 14 psi is what worrked best for be on 14x5 steelies.
Now a nice suugestion, LAUNCH when the last yellow comes on, that should lower your reaction times although ET's will be unaffected.

I was thinking of selling them, too. I did notice that the other night I was at the strip and lost 4 psi in the tires during an hour span waiting in the staging lanes. So I don't know if this is normal or not. If you want them they're yours.
If I do step up to the 20x8, would it be fine to mount them on the same 14x5 wheels? I was considering 22's, but didn't think I have the power for them. The most I plan to do with the car is the bolt-ons, and maybe mild cams. If I do get 22's should I get the 13" or 15".
