Just wondering if anyone else has the same problem... In 1st gear, the car barely wants to move, not to mention the gear is super short. Any thing to worry about or is it just econo gearing of a d16?

 

the car dosn't want to move in first at all? or the car doesn't wanna boost in first?

 

You know what the ratio is? It is probably geared pretty high (numerically lower) for enco reasons, but you said it was short which would make it actually a lower ratio (numerically higher). How short is it?(i.e. you redline only going 10 mph? Ole Ford Pickup stylee) lol Does the clutch engage fine?

 

Not sure of the gearing but its not short as in RPMS, short as in no power... Maybe i worded it wrong. It tends to bog down after about 10 mph but does not redline. And yeah the clutch engages just fine in first.

 

are you getting enough fuel? my friends zc hatch had a problem like that and it would run really lean on stock injectors and fuel pump. if your not than i don't know just trying to tell ya what happened to my buddys car

 

it prolly just rips through the rpms soo fast doesnt really seem like its doin anything. I had 8psi on my a6 with si tranny and i couldnt really get traction at all in first. And would hit rev limit almost instantly.

 

Im running a 14B w/ the stock d16a6
Vortech 12:1 FMU for fuel
upwards of 6 or 7 psi

I dont think that would be the problem cause the TDO5H is a super small turbo, perfect the motor. But thanks for the sugggestion.

 

i'll agree with the group. it is likely the close ratio tranny killing it.

its always hard to build up to full boost in 1st gear... ALWAYS
i'm the mechanic for a supra and it is literally fster in 2nd and 3rd then it is in first when he runs anything over stock boost.

he'll never see anything over 10psi in 1st gear.

2nd gear it boosts like a ************
the best was one time running 15psi and having a vacuum hose get blown right off the intake manifold
