I have a 1997 Civic EX, and I want to replace the DC Sports bars (front upper strut, rear upper strut, and rear lower tie) with Spoon Sports bars. I have two questions.

1 - Are Spoon Sports bars hard to install? My car is over six years old. I am guessing that, over the years, the body permanently twisted a little bit. Since DC Sports bars are adjustable, they are easy to install, but Spoon Sports bars are not adjustable. Does it matter? Also, according to http://www.spoonsports.us/catalog/civic/body.htm, "Installation can be completed easily and simply involves moving the air-conditioner hose by a slight degree." Does that apply to 1996-2000 Civics?

2 - Can you please post pictures of Spoon Sports bars installed on a 1996-2000 Civic?

The bars are very easy to install. The chassis of the car does flex some over time but not enough to make the bars difficult to install. Try A&J racing to find pics of the bars installed (link in my sig.) they should have some pics for you

 

EGCIV, thank you very much for the link. I found many useful pictures. After looking at them, I have another question. Look at the picture below. How do you torque the two nuts that are located directly under the bar?

 

If i was you id just leave the DC sports bars on the car. what the spoon bars will do as far as increasing performance is minimal and not worth the upgrade cost. lookin at your signature, you dont have sway bars yet. I guarantee you'd appreciate sway bars if you got those. IMO you'd be spending your money wiser.

yep, sway bars are the way to go... and if you really want something on your car that says "spoon" then get some spoon sway bars or save a crapload of cash and get ITR sway bars or something like that

 

im pretty sure that ITR sway bars are cheaper than Spoon sway bars.. i currently have a jdm itr rear bar on my car and its great.. ill be upgrading to a jdm itr front bar next week to replace the 21mm stock SI sway bar...

and 1 more thing, dont waste your money on the spoon strut bars, handling increases 100x more w/ sway bars then replacing something thats already good on your car

I am aware that sway bars make a more noticeable difference in cornering than strut and lower tie bars. I am also aware that, even with the Beaks Products Subframe Reinforcement Kit, sway bars can damage the subframe. The only sway bar I would ever consider buying would be the OEM one off a 1999-2000 Civic Si.

 

you shoulkd reconsider the swaybars and buy a rear bar with a chassis reinforcement such as those offered by Comptech, Susp.Techniques and others as well. they incorporate a rear lower tie bar into the sway bar mounts, very nice and worth the price.

I had Spoon strut tower bars and they are stif but VERY light, they are a great upgrade but you may not need the lightest bar out there so there may be no real benefit to you other than "bling"

the nuts under the bar can be tightened by a open end wrench or box wrench, the torque specs are easy to get close to by hand.
