To buy or not to Buy?
Im looking for a CRX Si that I can autox and maybe SCCA sometime in the future. I found a classified for an 88 Si for $600 and was wondering if it is in too bad a shape to bother with. Here are the details:
Has a ruptured fuel line that must be fixed before driving
Owner has kept awesome records and has replaced many parts
Owner does not have the title
There are many extras - engine in car is from 90 and has the original engine as well
The rust is bad enough that he body is sagging. He says that the alignment is out and cannot be fixed because rust has become so bad.
I have not seen the car but the owner has come right out with the information and has very detailed maintenance records.
My main concern is that the rust sounds really bad and you need a straight car if you are going to race. How bad must the rust be if alignment cannot even be fixed? Is that rust repairable and would it be worth the cost of fixing it compared to just getting a good body?
$600 seems so good and CRX's are hard to come by these days.

Got my crx for 1000 and is was rust infested. Just pop rivetited in some new metal and ocverred with body filler and got a paint job. I wouldnt grab it if it was eating away at supports or things were barely holding together though

If you cant do a alignment due to rust that means the unibody is on its last leg and the suspension is ready to pop into the engine bay and rear cargo area.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Yeah I definately wouldnt take any chances auto-xing in a car like that i mean one hard corner and part of your car might keep going straight!!

Those were my thoughts, autox and racing put a lot of stress on a car. I might go check it out if it is still for sale in a few weeks.
By the time I fixed the body (if possible) it would have cost me more than a good body.
