Default Scuffed Piston

i was putting my rings on earlier(itr pistons) and the rings minorly scuffed the sides of the piston, enough so that i can see it...i'm wonderin if there was a proper method to sand the sides of the piston to insure a smooth surface? any help would be appreciated. thanks.
(pics suck but the scuff is by the pin)
