How to "clean-up" ports and combustion chamber
Im not talking about porting and polishing, but I hear people say that they "cleaned up" the ports or combustion chambers...
what does this mean? just ridding the head of casting marks?
Can I do this in my garage? could someone enlighten me w/ some details? pics would be great too

i know what you mean......they are only doing a polished jobs on that area. not using any porting stone or other thing which can make the holes more bigger. just make a better circulation on this area.
normally they're using old sand paper ( not too harsh ) , old newspaper, cotton wools and some water to clean it. Just make it shiny, especially on the exhusts chamber.
For the most part, 'cleaning up' refers to just getting rid of casting flash and other roughnesses. For instance, casting flash in the combustion chamber can lead to detonation-casuing 'hot spots' and should definitely be removed. And a rough transition between the port and valve seat most definitely reduces flow. But smoothing things out in the entry area generally doesn;t help much, as this area is not a bottleneck in a typical port.
