Default Rollbar Question

hey guys i was just wondering what ur opinions are on me getting a rollbar put into my 93 hatch while its completly gutted getting body/paint done. I am tossing some sparco seats/harness' in and i do want to race it on weekends etc at the track (just 1/4 mile) but ive heard alot of people say that if u get seats/harness' u should get one bla bla, so i just wanted to get everyones comments/opinions before i make my decision (i got quoted $650cad for a 6 pt.)

Thanks all

I would do it considering the plans that you have. That seems like a pretty good price if it includes materials. Did he give you the option to go with cromoly? It definately makes the car much stiffer and more responsive as well as adding safety.

I didn't mean for this to seem like i meant that the moly is what made the car stiffer, just the bar in general.

i would get it now if i were you. if you turbo your h22 you will most likely need it anyway. besides the obvious reasons for a cage it also looks wicked in a street car.
Do you already have your seats and harness?.

make sure the seat is tied in w/ the roll bar, as well that your head is within 6 inches from the main hoop when u have ur helmet on.

also, get swing out door bars...it will make ur life a hell of a lot easier on the street--unless u like dukes of hazard alot.

the cromoly vs. mild steel debate is up in the air. cromoly is lighter, but more exspensive plus u have to tig it in. the mild steel, costs less, but can mig it in. weight difference is about 40 lbs-60lbs, pending # of poioints and reinforcing braces/etc. check out http://www.swracecars.com they have good prices and can make stuff in chromoloy. their cost for a kit was less than i could get the materials and pipe bent for.

lastly--if welded in, need 6 inch by 6 inch plates welded to the floor, and the bars welded to that. if u bolt it in, need plates on both sides and the unibody acts as a sandwhich.

http://www.kenskustomchassis.com has a 6 point kit for $145 and all the tubes are notched and ready for welding
