Default OT: Parking Lot Scum

Had the R out this morning and parked it for about 25minutes while getting something from the store. As usual i walk around the car to make sure its still mint and i see a 2inch by 2inch scratch on my passenger side door. I am always careful where i park and am now upset that my baby is wounded.

I guess my question is....do battle scars like this add to character or should i break down and get a new paint job for 0204

opinions please!

topic is worthless without a picture.

if it's not a deep scratch (metal showing), just get a touch up paint and cover it up. You'll probably get more dings & scratches down the road. Save up money and get it repainted at a later time.

when you run a finger over the scratch you can feel the section without the paint, so i would classify this as metal showing.

Same opinion her my clearcoat on both 1/4 panels is chipping, im waiting for a better job for a paintjob too. Maybe optional sides and rear skirt cf hood and an upgraded suspension.. sorry im daydreaming @ work again:slap slap:
Don't sweat it, and don't leave it in a parking garage!

the type R is just as a race car with turn signals and air conditioning. consider this your first step toward road racing- cage it and put it on the track somewhere!!

you're in Boston and expect the car to remain spotless?

I ALWAYS park out where no one is parked. If I can't do that, then I park somewhere else.

A new paint job may not be necessary. You can get it professionally touched up with an airbrush at a body shop. I had a body shop fill in a paint chip and it is now barely noticable. I'm not sure about a 2"x2" chip though, it seems pretty big. At most, my chips were no more than 1/4"x1/4". Or you can have someone come to your house and do it for you:

Or you can try to do it yourself:

I've never tried either of the above, but I will consider it when it is time to repair chips again.

If it's just a scratch then try some scratch remover, if that doesnt work take it to a body shop and get an estimate. No need to repaint the whole car over a scratch, consider it a battle scar,a nd take more precautions int he future. I know how you feel though, since Ive had my car I had the bumper almost ripped off, left a quarter size crack in the paint, and a dent in the rear quarter panel. It sucks i know

I've got dings, dents, scratches and chips all over my R. However, the car is meant for driving and is quickly becoming a trackwhore, so I take it with pride.

ah I know the frustration all to well. Just today I was eating in a teriyaki shop. I was sitting next to the window and look out to see an ambulance door friggin swing wide open and nail my car

I was like WTF that *******. So I go outside and am kinda like, you hit me car . Then the guy says oh **** i'm sorry man . I wasn't really expecting that so I didn't know what to say and just said "uh, well ****, I gues **** happens right?

LoL it was pretty lame but they were two big EMT's WTF was I going to do? Demand he pay me money? He left more of a small dent but eh.
