gen2 crx for autox
I've noticed that the gen1 crx and pre-1992 civic hatches seem to do rather well for autox. I havent really seen too many gen2 crxes out on the course. I was wondering how well do they hold their ground (any particular classes they do well in)? nationals?
The reason I'm asking is because I have a completely stock 91 crx dx and was wondering if it's worth putting money into it as an all out autox toy
. I currently autox my integra, but it is mainly just for fun since i use it also as my daily driver.
thoughts? experience? suggestions? tia

While the car could be made into a CSP monster with the update clause allowing the Si powertrain, and a suspension tuned to YOUR preferences, I have been noticing that the CRX's (regardless of vintage) are losing ground to Mazda Miatas (and a certain RX-3) and the ugly, but quick Toyota MR Spyder.
But that's nationally.
Judging from the sound of things, you are just going to run locally so build and keep the economy going guy.

I remember reading something about converting dx parts with si parts and can still keep you out of sm2 class. so it would throw me into csp... interesting. I think you are right, miatas have a parade in csp class from the events ive been to.
Do you think if i converted the rear into jdm rear seats, I could pass for sts class?

?, that alone shouldn't keep you out of SM2. SM/2 by definition inherits the SP rules. If you can update/backdate in SP, you can do it in SM. And everything else is pretty open. If you find the original reference to this statement, post it, I'm curious as to what they were referring to.

With the introduction of the Clubsport Miata and the ability to drop all that weight by removing the mechanical roof and run topless (thanks to update/backdate) most people feel that was the nail in the coffin for the Honda's in CSP nationally. Regionally, I wouldn't let it worry you. Just drive, get practice and have fun.

I know you were probably joking, but some people surely considered it. But what prevents this is 1) those backseats were only available in offshore market cars and 2) in both ST and SM rules, the CRX is specifically called out as an excluded model.
I've heard of a rumored "STS2" or "ST2" for a couple years, similar to SM/SM2 but for STS. But you'll have to wait and see, since in the begining it probalby won't be implemented at more than a regional level. And it will be up to the individual regions to adopt.

Alan Kugler had a 2nd gen CRX in CSP for a number of years. It/he/they (him and his wife) were terrifyingly fast, but still not as fast as the best CSP Miata and RX3. I remember him saying something about "issues" with the rear suspension geometry and having to drive around them due to not being able to fix them under the rules. I don't know what those issues were and if they were a problem for people at a lower talent level then him, like most of us.
GRM did an article about his car a few years ago, it might be worth trying to track it down for some specifics on his setup. As far as I can tell, his was the fastest CSP CRX in the country, so that seems like a good starting point.

sure is a great idea! I love the crx's....

I went to a NEOhio region SCCA event last Sunday in Akron, Ohio and they run an ST2 class. It's full of Miatas, as one would expect.
SCCA needs to announce national-level recognition of the ST2 class before I swap the engine in my CRX and move to SM2.
