carb. powered prelude question ???????
i have an 85 prelude dual carb 3 bbl 1.8 - i have hollowed out the cat, put a performance muffler on it, accel wires, top of the line spark plugs, and a k&n filter - i have great low end power, up to about 4000 rpms, but no top end (which i found really odd about a honda). how can i give this car the top end that it needs to keep the power that i want. i can't find a header for it anywhere (if anyone knows where i can get one, let me know), and i just don't know what to do to get the top end power. i am not looking to port it out or change anything like that. i don't want to put tons of money into this car, so please don't suggest a cold air intake, boring it out, or anything like that. i just want to know if there is a simpler way to just give it top end power. please help!!!
You probably need to get your carbs adjusted. I have driven in a friends carburated prelude, and it had more than enough topend. There is also a good chance that the carbs are just gummed up, expecially since the car is over 15 years old. Try some in-tank fuel system cleaner as a start, and look into getting them checked out.
i actually just got done rebuilding both carbs and putting them back together. one wasn't working right, but now they are both running fine. i then tried all the other things i posted above, but nothing seems to be working. i am still at a loss as to how get the top end power.
doesn't anyone know anything about carbed preludes? come on guys - if someone has something to ask about the f.i. new models, everyone has some info. what about the older models? anyone?
That car was made just eight years after I was born. Wish I could help but I was still playin' with Tonkas when your car made it's debut. On the other hand I did use to have a VW bug, and after I rebuilt the carb, I had to play around with it and the distributor to get it to run perfect. I also replaced all my igniton, like distributor, wires, and whatever else. The timing on that car was extremely sensitive, and it took a little trial and error to get it to run like I wanted. Have you considered nitrous? Just a thought.
