Finally... I got my caR back- but unhappy and worried.
I got my caR back from the F------ dealer tonight.
It seems much better- I don't hear anything= good.
But they did not tighten the exhaust all the way- I hear the leak
I guess I'll have to do it myself
And they forgot a few other items I asked them to fix while they had the car- No biggie just very aggravating
One more thing: When they replaced the case (both sides) is it true that they don't come with the VIN plate? cause now I have no vin plate on the tranny and thats bothering me alot. I asked where it is but they said they are not allowed to put it on the new case

That sux!
Tell them to make an exception because it's an R.
Try bribing a tech to give you the old plate if you have to.
Problem is, they cannot replace those special rivets, so they may not be able to secure it. If they did, it would either be void because it was 'tampered' with, or it would just be press fit into a couple of holes using the existing rivets, which would be suspect also.
It sucks, and you can try to get it, but I'm not sure there is anything you can do.
You CAN however, save every reciept you've got. That will show your VIN got a new tranny case ++ at the dealer, along with whatever warranty comes with it. That should be good enough for any buyer who really deserves an R. Otherwise, it has a serial number on it. Speaking of which, you need to record that, and best of all is to make sure the dealer put that on the service invoice. If not, get them to do that!
If it should have no serial number, you need to stamp one in there, and take a pic of it with a disposable camera. :edit: You don't have to do this, and be sure not to crack the case if you do! Do not use digital, it is not looked upon favorably in legal procedings because it can be easily manipulated.

Yes this true. Do big deal retain your receipt for the tranny, Rob. Same thing happened top my buddy when Ac of westchester gave him a new tranny...
New tranny is nice with no barnacles on the tranny case now.

did it put a hole in the case? or are they just too slow to fix a tranny and would rather just replace it?

Use the clutch next time when you shift...it serves more purpose than starting up the car

I bypassed the clutch starty thing 3 years ago when I bought the caR, and do I really need to use the clutch when I drive?

IIRC, the pictures showed a good deal of wear within the case around the bearing which probably made it out of "spec" for the bearing.

i've never heard anyone say they 'spun a bearing' when talking about a ball bearing. That is funny.
There was more than likly absolutly no reason to give you a new case. Just saves them labor time.

D. just out of curiosity, what would/could be attributed to Rob's transmissions catastrophic failure? (Insert less dramatic verbage if it suffices.)

in that pic the bore in the case doesn't look bad. shrug. i'd let it eat.

i wouldn't consider destroying the input bearing catastrophic, shrug. cause? mileage, use, hard shifts/launch, or in general, bearing design was not quite good enough for the type of loading it undergoes. shrug... i just replaced mine at 116k. things wear out, then you replace them.

There seems to be a pattern here...
Rob, maybe talk to CPR, he seems to have issues too:
