Default Short Shifter

Sup guys, I just bought one of 4bidden's short shifters and someone told me that it messes up the synchros in the tranny, i'm not really familiar with tranmissions or anything related to them, i know there are 3 settings for his shifter, i just wanted to make sure the shifter wouldn't mess anything up on the 2nd setting (midding setting) any replies on whether or not this would affect my tranny or any feedback from guys with the shifter would be appreciated

Well I just bought the forbidden shifter myself which I should be getting any day now and I'm looking forward to putting it in. As for messing up synchros, I've never heard anything like that and I'm not a tranny guru either but my guess would be that your shifting ability would have a bigger effect on your synchros than the shifter itself. A short shifter by definition is made to shorten the distance of your throws, which MAY throw off your shifting ability I guess, but that's not the fault of the shifter.

I'll post up my feedback on the shifter once I have it installed.

Is your short shift better in performance than a short shift adapter?

If someone wants to loan me their 5gen assembly I'll see what I can do. I was borrowing one but had to send it back.

Until there is a 5th generation 4bidden short shift, I will just have to settle with my short shift adapter "piece of ****". The good thing is that I don't even drive my lude at all because I can't get it into reverse. Hopefully once one comes out, I will have fixed my reverse problem.

well, I own one and I can personally say this. This shifter is a good and well made shifter. The quality is that of a top quality. When I first had it, it felt good because the throw was short and smooth. Like one month into using it, I started to noticed that it wasn't as smooth as it was. It started to get notchy so I lowered it to the lowest setting which is the longest throw. It felt good for a while but now it is starting to feel notchy again. I don't know if i'm the only one that has this problem but this is a serious problem for me. I know that if I continue to use this shifter, my synchros will be mess up because I can feel as if something is not right when I shift. It feels as if something is rubbing against eachother or as if i'm not fully engaging my clutch and I know I fully enguage my clutch. I believe that the stock shifter is the safest way to go but if you don't care than a short shifter like this wouldn't hurt. A tranny like our is not made for a shorter shifter like this, it's suppose to have a shifter that will locate the shift linkage at the right place. A shorter shifter like this or with the adapter is locating the shift linkage a little outward and that mean something in the tranny is not really where it belong or at the right place. I think this make the tranny component such as the synchros kind of rub against eachother and over time it will wear out. I don't know about all the my prelude fellas who own this shifter but i'm definitely going back to stock because I think it's not worth it if my tranny goes out. Plus i'm not a die hard racer and I don't need a shorter throw everytime. Again, this is my own opinion and experience that I just want to share it with you. Your experience may be different than this.

Make one yourself and profit from it...Im kicking myself in the *** now because I walked into Advanced Autoparts the other day and saw the Spinner Hub caps out! about 2 years ago I said to myself as I saw ghetto cars that wish they had chrome rims with hub caps driving "Somebody should come out with Spinner hub caps and make hella profit from it.." Sure enough they did

That is a piece of crap. The linkage is just a set of cables that move in or out. The only thing a short throw does is relocated the point at where the linkage extends or retracts the most.. So it now takes less movement for you to extend or retract when compared to the stock position....

If you synchros are going bad, then they are doing just that and its to no fault of the assembly...

Well with this being said, how many 5th Gen owners have bought the Dc Sport adapter and experienced similar problems?

preludenextdoor - If you own my shifter and are having the problems you described, you have problems elsewhere. Short shifters will make the engagement more "defined", but will not do what you stated. Do you have fresh tranny fluid in?

Whoever said they have a spare 5gen assembly...you got a PM.
